According to JW Media, baptism "symbolizes one's dedication to God".

On this basis, a JW's allegiance and obedience is to God. Thus, the article goes on to state:

Jehovah's Witnesses avoid making rules and regulations beyond those provided in the Scriptures
, and they do not follow traditions that contradict Bible teachings. Emphasis is placed on personal application of Bible principles and the value of a sound, Bible-based conscienceMany would dispute that. If you are one who has been a member of a JW congregation, how many "rules and regulations" that go "beyond those provided in the Scriptures" can you think of?

    Let me start:

    1. Requiring a member to go before a judicial committee.

    2. "Restrictions" placed on members adjudged to be repentant sinners, or on re-instated members.

    3. Prohibition on smoking tobacco.

    4. Attempting to 'split hairs' over what is/is not allowed with blood.

    5. Loyalty to an organisation and acceptance of a ruling body termed a "faithful and discreet slave."

    6. (Space for your entry)

    etc etc

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

The only grounds for divorce is adultry. unless you resume sex with your mate, then you no longer have those grounds.

SEX = FORGIVENESS is a WT rule that goes beyond the scriptures.

    10) Beards are evil!
    11) Must go out in service at least 1 hour each month to be a "publisher," considered more "spiritual" if you match or exceed the publisher "average"
    12) Be sure to turn in your field service reports each month, and on time
    13) Must follow ALL directions of the "Governing Body"
    14) No college except where absolutely necessary, and ONLY so that you'll be able to "pioneer"
    15) Skirt lengths below the knees for sisters
    16) Male sterilization for birth control is prohibited (once again)
    17) No sports or after-school club activities for JW children in school

    19)

The baptismal questions from the Aug. 1, 1966 Watchtower (p. 465) were:

    (1) Have you recognized yourself before Jehovah God as a sinner who needs salvation, and have you acknowledged to him that this salvation proceeds from him, the Father, through his Son Jesus Christ?

    (2) On the basis of this faith in God and in his provision for salvation, have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to God to do his will henceforth as he reveals it to you through Jesus Christ and through the Bible under the enlightening power of the holy spirit?

The newest baptismal questions were set forth in the June 1, 1985 (p. 30) Watchtower:

    (1) On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?

    (2) Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-directed organization?

I guess holy spirit is now "God's spirit-directed organization"

But I have one that is better!

"Would a JW go beyond the Watchtower?"

Never may that happen! Especially since starting in 2002 the Number #1 talks are going to be taken either out of the "All scripture" book or "THE WATCHTOWER." 15 minutes of it!!!!

    Just a thought

Actually using these in theses side articles in the WT and Awake in the instruction talk started in 1999. Most JWs don't read those articles (especially the elders) and many of those articles address specific behavior and thinking errors in the congregation. Before that the Proclaimers book was used, also a book not many read. I guess the GB is assuming they will make you hear it if you won't read it. The Insight Book was covered in the other talks #3 and #4, covering persons mentioned in the Bible with a fairly substantial section.
