Another international slate of scientists have released their findings regarding global climate change and human's effect on that (see the above link).

After the last major study released by several hundred scientists a few months ago, it does seem there is a serious concensus here among the leading thinkers and scientists on this issue. I know I've banged heads with a few who disagree with this, but it does seem as though that handful of folks who disagree with the science are looking more and more like deniers, as in holocaust deniers, moon landing deniers, etc.

In other words, out there on the lunatic fringe.

So, do you folks think it might be time to reconsider?

Whoever disagrees with the system are classed as nutters. Instead of being mature and listening to these theories, we are forced to laugh at people who have out of the box theories and we have learnt to control each other. The people have outsheeped the sheep.

    "Whoever disagrees with the system..."

Hmm... The consensus of what is, at this point, the overwhelming majority of experts in the field, is hardly a case of disagreeing with some supposed system.

I understand that the argument from authority can be a logical fallicy, BUT, it is absolutely legitimate to respect and in general accept the consensus of scientific opinion and the views of the majority of those people trained and experienced in a particular field. When two international bodies of experts, consisting of hundreds of scientists, come to the same conclusions and release two unified statements on an issue, I'd say it's time to start listening.

Out of the box theorists may have some legitimate points here, but it doesn't seem like they are making much of an impression on their international peers. Maybe they are just nutters.

    seeker,

I recently read a novel, "State of Fear", by Michael Crichton.

It is written for our current times, but he uses a lot of scientific data from all over the world in the writing of the novel.

Have you happened to read it?

It has a lot of 'proofs' that really diminish the argument for global warming.

    I would appreciate your opinion.

either there is proof of global warming, or there is not.

the issue will not be settled by majority vote.

uninformed, I'm curious as to the "proofs" Crichton sets forth in his novel, aside from putting the naysayers in the good-guy character roles...

Maybe we should send copies to all those scientists. I'm sure it has a lot of data they've never seen before. We wouldn't want them to be mislead by other nefarious sources of data.

Who said anything about votes? And is it settled by the uninformed? If we disregard the opinions of scientists what do we have to go on? Is kitchen-table logic going to give us the answer?

There are a lot of scientists and a lot of opinions.

All I said was that Michael Crichton wrote a novel about global warming, and used "facts" that diminished the argument for global warming.

I am sure you are smarter that I am and can argue a lot better, as all I am is an old bricklayer.
