Love's no 'Hustle' to star |
'Hustle & Flow' star Terrence Howard has asked Dayanara Torres, whose ex is Marc Anthony, to marry him. |
The "Hustle & Flow" star split with wife, Lori, in 2003, after 14 years of marriage. Last year, the couple, who have three children and a home-renovation business in Philadelphia, tried to make another go of it. Their rapprochement lasted less than a year.
In the midst of his divorce, he met a woman who'd known her own heartache — Dayanara Torres. The 1993 Miss Universe had seen her husband, Marc Anthony, jettison her for Jennifer Lopez.
Howard is said to have fallen hard for the 31-year-old Puerto Rican beauty, who has two children of her own.
"They were only dating a few months when he proposed," says a source. "He told her he was at the tail end of a divorce, that his wife was with someone else now. But Dayanara got a little scared. She's got a lot of guys calling — like [Dole Food heir] Justin Murdock. But she doesn't want to rush into anything."
Religion may have been a factor. Torres is a serious Catholic; Howard has raised his children as Jehovah's Witnesses.
"She's really fond of Terrence," adds the source, "but as a friend."
Howard tells us: "Dayanara may be afraid of commitment — and I understand that. She's been hurt."
But the actor, who turns 37 on Saturday, explains, "I'm a traditional man. I'm looking for a woman who thinks the same way. I've learned what happens when you don't take marriage seriously."
