Saint Patties Day Apostafest in Seattle, well really - actually Mukilteo - Washington
So there you are sitting at home reading this - wondering what kind of "fest" this will be. So since most of you have never been to one of our regular get together's - allow me to explain - sorry for the length. We have kids so we try to keep things easy going thus we like to host our get together's this way ...and of course I'll try to answer those questions you might have.
From when to when?
Do you know what time it is? You see there are people who have different tastes on what time to have a get together, a party, or even a dinner engagement. We want to start at around 3pm and end in the late evening - early morning as dictated by those that are still around as night falls. Why 3 pm you say, well we have found that 3pm gives those that want lunch the ability to have it and still have room for what may be served here.
So when should I come?We have had the most success with organizing in this way, basically into three parts.
***3pm till early evening *** For those of you that have later commitments, a show to go to, don't like to stay out late - insert your reason here. This would be the prime time for those of you that are not expecting to stay out late.
***Early evening to late evening*** For those of you that had something to do earlier in the day and don't mind staying later. You still get to meet everyone but you don't have to drive really fast to get here - its ok...
***Late evening*** Well you folks missed the majority of the people that have planned to attend but perhaps the folks that have planned on staying late are still here. We'd like to have you, so give us a call and we'll give you the skinny on what's going on although we can't promise that the good food will still be there but we might have a cracker or two - maybe some chips and some pudding.
What about the food? I might get hungry...Ah the food - my mother used to say "its all good - just eat"...
I'll have the normal dips, salsa, chips and other goodies but I am planning on adding some surprises. Rumor has it that I might make tamales and California rolls but I'll know more as it gets closer to that day; it all depends on what's fresh, how much time I have, etc... (note: questions about what to bring below)
The big question - what kind of beverages???We'll have the usual beverages like soda, water, coffee and of course beer and wine. Although we don't normally drink the harder stuff, we do have a limited bar for those to partake. I like to have the occasional glass of Grand Marnier on a cold winter night and Doodle likes an occasional mud slide but we are primarily wine drinkers. (note: questions about what to bring below)
So there are those of you that want to know about having one too many at our place.
This is not a rowdy party but it's not a tea party either - it is however a get together where you can be yourself in a social setting. Now for those of you that do find yourself a wee bit more tipsy then you'd like - don't worry our couches are comfy, you are safe at our house. Because we can honestly say we really do care about you - if we feel that perhaps you've been eyeing that lamp shade a little to much or if your face is turning a lovely shade of plaid we do reserve the right to guide you to the sodas, water or coffee - we only say this because we care and we want you all (that's everyone) to feel safe and comfortable at our house. We aren't the elders but we do ask that you drink responsible and know your limits.
So should I bring anything?Fine question, a sense of humor, a sense of friendship and the ability to look beyond the cover of the book. Yes kin and close friends are welcome but make sure they understand what kind of get together this is. Oh, you mean like food or drink, well bring what you want - can you make an awesome spinach dip, are you good at deserts, you want to bring that new Jones flavored soda or have you made your own wine - go for it, bring what you want but don't feel like you have to.
What about kids and what if they get bored? As I stated earlier - this is a get together so by all means bring them but don't leave them, we have our own, oh you mean what if you're a kid - oh we'll have the Xbox on and I've got a stand up arcade type game for you to play and there will be some music in the back ground.
So what next?Doodle will send out the notice about what date it is and what the next steps are, etc... If you have any questions, concerns or issues, please just PM Doodle-V (as she visits more often then I do).
