When you are admitted to hospital... (a suggestion)

On another thread, Princess has raised a very important point for all ex-Dubs and fadeaways.

Apparently when you register and fill in the religious affiliation blank they give that info to the elders if they ask.

If you are a "repeat customer" i.e. you're booking in at a hospital that you've previously been admitted to, there will be pre-existing details on their database about you. This would include your religious affiliation. Perhaps it was some time ago since you were last admitted to hospital when you were then a zealous Dub. But what of now? If your religious affiliation has changed, it would be prudent to make this known at the time of your next admission.

Your details may show that you are a JW and so this information will be made available to the registered Dub hospital visitors, who serve as the equivalent of Chaplains.

If you do not wish to be visited by the Dub chaplain, make sure that your admission details are "up-to-date".

    Cheers, Ozzie

I wonder if that would include anything you may have signed in the past regaurding blood transfusions?

I mean, I would hate to be laying there bleeding to death, and unable to say "I didnt mean that! ... Poke that tube in me and start pumping!"

Wow! I said something worth repeating.

You are right Ozzie. When I became pregnant again I made it very clear to my doctor that we were no longer dubs and the blood stand was history. In this area you are able to pre-register for admittance for childbirth so I had the forms and was able to take the time to make sure it was very clear we were no longer witnesses and asked that the hospital computer only state "Christian". If I had to fill them out while in labor, that would have been another story.

Kat, I would make sure the hospital had record of your new stand. However, not having a blood card helps too! Make sure your doctor knows. How tragic it could be otherwise.

Up dating your healthcare directive is important too. Re-doing it to reflect your post JW desires and getting copies to your physicians and to the hospitals where you are likely to be admitted to is very helpful to all concerned.

Good words of advice from our friends here. Kinda like doing the Dub thing, but in reverse!!

    Thanks Ozzi

This is a good reminder - I must sort out our records cards at the doctor's surgery as well as dentist and hospital too.
