It wil be better covered by other sites (CNN and the like) but I just found out that Pat Tillman, who left a $9 million offer from the St. Louis Rams after playing for the Arizona Cardinals, where he was easily their best defensive player, was killed while fighting in Afghanistan. He was 27.

He left the NFL in his prime to enlist in the Army and attempt to join the Rangers, which he succeed in doing. His brother Kevin, who was a baseball propect for the Cleveland Indians, also join the unit.

This is the definition of heroism. He gave up the fame, riches, and lifestyle of a pro athlete to serve his country, and wilfully put himself in harms' way to do so. While I opposed the Iraq invasion, I thought Bush made the right call on running down the Taliban and Al-Queda where there were. Pat Tillman was one of the guys on the ground.

Lots die every day. Tillman made it known that he didn't want any special treatment. In this case, I respectfully decline his wishes.

I remember reading about Pat Tillman joining the army a couple years ago, and admiring his courage and patriotism. I couldn't help but shed tears as I read this story today. He was is the real thing.

So much for Bush's promise not to turn this mess in to another Vietnam. Thousands of lives lost, for..... what's teh point again?

I sort of have a problem with this getting SO MUCH media attention. It kind of downplays the "normal" guys and gals who serve in the army.

Pat Tillman was a person that did what he believed, he was no ordinary individual. Being in the Army myself during the Vietnam war I can tell you that a soldier who is a Ranger and a member of the special forces is a cut above the rest. I have no problem that so much attention is being placed on Pat Tilman since he paid the supreme price. I am thankful that we still have people that put their convictions into action. I hope that the NFL retires his number.

    Pat Tillman

    RIP
