Scholar, 607 and Evolutionary Change

Jehovah's Witnesses have recently done an about-face on their teachings about God, the Bible, creation and evolution, and are about to announce major changes in their teachings on these things. On their website, they say that "faith in God is merely an emotional experience." "God is not an explanation" of the universe, they now teach.

As regards the question of origins, "our universe is all a matter of chance." What is God's role? "There is no God. His creative deity is Chance."

As for religion in general, it "has been rejected by many people of science for its resistance to scientific progress" because "damaging falsehoods and practices have infiltrated religion."

As for creationism, it "has done more harm to serious notions of belief than anything in modern history." From now on, the Watchtower Society will encourage Jehovah's Witnesses to believe in evolution: "In their congregations the Witnesses nurture a healthy respect for science and its proven findings."

Why are Jehovah's Witnesses making this change? Because they have recognized that today, "evolution is taking place", and so "evolution is a fact." They state that "only the ignorant disbelieve evolution" and "evolution is as much a fact as the existence of gravity."

I welcome this change. "Scholar", what do you think about these upcoming changes?

You're kidding! I just finished my disassociation letter this week, stating that I would come to bethel at my own expense to discuss various matters, including evolution. This is something.

    Alan,

Is this an exercise in misquotation? I can't find any of these on the site. A metalogue? Brilliantly enacted if so. If not, please do send url.

Great quotes, AlanF. They say it all! LOL :-).

    Here is another one from *** w04 2/15 p. 15 Guard Against Deception ***:

8 As Christians, (...), what methods do (we need to ) use to achieve the(...) aim? We (...) often resort to distortions, half-truths, and outright falsehoods. Jesus knew that (some of his) his followers would (...) ?tell all kinds of evil lies.?.
