False Prophets Or Just In Need Of a Slight Adjustment?

I haven't come across this before. It's from the March 15, 1986 Watchtower and is Brooklyn's way of confronting the issue of whether or not they are false prophets:

    >>>>>>>>>>>14

Finally, we might consider what the Society has published in the past on chronology. Some opposers claim that Jehovah?s Witnesses are false prophets. These opponents say that dates have been set, but nothing has happened. Again we ask, What is the motive of these critics? Are they encouraging wakefulness on the part of God?s people, or are they, rather, trying to justify themselves for falling back into sleepy inactivity? (1 Thessalonians 5:4-9) More importantly, what will you do if you hear such criticism? If a person is questioning whether we are living in "the last days" of this system, or perhaps is entertaining ideas that God is so merciful that he surely will not cause the death of so many millions of people during the "great tribulation," then this individual already has prepared his heart to listen to such criticisms.?2 Timothy 3:1; Matthew 24:21.

Yes, Jehovah?s people have had to revise expectations from time to time. Because of our eagerness, we have hoped for the new system earlier than Jehovah?s timetable has called for it. But we display our faith in God?s Word and its sure promises by declaring its message to others. Moreover, the need to revise our understanding somewhat does not make us false prophets or change the fact that we are living in "the last days," soon to experience the "great tribulation" that will pave the way for the earthly Paradise. How foolish to take the view that expectations needing some adjustment should call into question the whole body of truth! The evidence is clear that Jehovah has used and is continuing to use his one organization, with "the faithful and discreet slave" taking the lead. Hence, we feel like Peter, who said: "Lord, whom shall we go away to? You have sayings of everlasting life."?John 6:68.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Yep. And as per teh bible, that would make them false prophet's. Not people having "expectations needing adjustments". Especially when their were those who sold all there stuff, etc., and were ENCOURAGED to do so at the time. Then basically called stupid by the WTS after it did'nt happen.

LOL the evidence is massively opposite to their statement.

When I read the type of s**t contained in the WT like you posted Englishman, I just can't understand why ther isn't a massive class action suit against the WT. They have apparently made so many false promises in order to suck money from unsuspecting people. I can't help but think If this were any other scam they would have been jailed by now. I wouldn't be surprised of some very clever ex JWs have already launched lawsuits only to have them payed off quietly in out of court settlements.

Is a 180 degree turn an adjustment or a flip flop?

until 1929 the superior authorities were the secular authorities

from 1929 to 1962 they were God and Jesus

from 1962 to the present they are once again the secular authorities

until 1967 organ transplants were a conscience matter

from 1967 to 1980 they were a DFing offense

from 1980 to the present they are once again a conscience matter

What about the resurrection of the people in Sodom and Gomorrah?

When are the sheep and the goats separated?

When did the disgusting thing stand in a holy place?

When was the beginning of Jesus presence, 1874 or 1914?

When did the call to heaven end, 1881 or 1935?

Shh Blondie you ask too many questions. You are in need of a readjustment in thinking.

[By 1925] You will have secured the services of the best decorators you can find. Some of them used to be undertakers; but since there are no more people dying, they have had to seek some new occupation. Their experience as undertakers prepared them to become decorators with very little difficulty.

    Deuteronomy 18:22

when the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuousness the prophet spoke it.

    *** w97 5/1 p. 8 Identifying the Right Kind of Messenger ***

JEHOVAH GOD is the Grand Identifier of his true messengers. He identifies them by making the messages he delivers through them come true. Jehovah is also the Great Exposer of false messengers. How does he expose them? He frustrates their signs and predictions. In this way he shows that they are self-appointed prognosticators, whose messages really spring from their own false reasoning?yes, their foolish, fleshly thinking!

And yet those who show them their "foolish, fleshly thinking" are apostates? I think they got this point right though. "Jehovah is also the Great Exposer of false messengers."

They want and get it both ways. They make predictions but not prophecies, although a prediction is a prophecy. They say they speak for God but they are not prophets . . . but speaking for God is another definition of a prophet. They say God interprets the prophecy and they just print it but they are not the prophets, God is. Spin, spin.

The bottom line is that members who like being a Witness don't care. Witnesses who don't like being a Witness but who are trapped, can't care. Witnesses who don't like being a Witness but don't leave, have no right to care.

Most Witnesses are just social members or treat it like a multi-level marketing business with immortality offered as the bonus of the month.
