An elder confesssed to me the other week that they had an elders meeting and the topic was rasied about how tired the brothers were. He said "Quite frankly, the brothers expected Armageddon a long time ago and they are just exhausted".

I then enquired of him "Do you think the WTBTS keeping us in a permanent state of eschatological expectancy causes strain and stress and tiredness - he said yes. How long before this reaches the COs ears?

    Careful, Watchtower

Cracks are beginning to show up in your foundation!

Remember how the oppressive government of Rumania fell? Their dictator ordered the army to shoot the

protesting crowds. The army wouldn't respond. Much the same happened in East Germany, the soldiers just stood

by while the people hammered at the wall.

When the elders get tired - and quietly give up

    the old Theocrats will tremble

Thanks for your story. This is exactly the "hollowing out" of the organization I have been noticing as well. "Hollow" meaning that the old troopers are still carrying the JW flag and living the life, but they don't know why anymore. They are sleep walking.

They certainly look like ZOMBIES when going door-to-door!

I'm not saying that to be mean spirited; rather it is based on my recent covert observations of JWs out in their "ministry".

Yes, Armageddon should have been here by now; it should have been here before 1975.

    From an assembly talk:

    ================================
We're going to listen to their agonizing entreaty "Brothers get in" because they know what's coming! And it's coming fast. And don't wait 'till 1975. The door is going to be shut before then.

I have noticed also that more and more brothers miss meetings and really enjoy weekends with families - they are just not that bothered any more -truly tired out - and more also just read word for word lines out of the watchtower study- as Ed Dunlap said - A WT study is a WT study -NOT a bible study

    This so true.

I have noticed this with my elderly parents. They drag themselves to the meetings and in service. The energy has gone out of them.

The book ANIMAL FARM has a real parallel with what is happening with many long time witnesses. When I look at my folks I think of the old animals of that book that have waited so long to be liberated. But that liberation never comes.

    It is so sad.

My mom, the most zealous of the witnesses in my family, has no problem skipping a meeting here and there. Sometimes she just "doesn't feel up to it." Her exact words.

A couple of weeks ago we were on the phone, just chit chatting, then the conversation turned to retirement plans, life insurance, etc. I found out that she never invested in her company's 401k nor did she ever buy a life insurance policy. I asked her "why the hell not?!" She says that she never "had a head for numbers and figures......." It dawned on me later on in the day what the REAL reason was: she never expected to reach retirement age in this "old system." Come to think of it, my mom got baptized shortly before 1975. She didn't expect to die at all!

I imagine so many others in the same situation as her.

A couple of months ago, a jw couple came to our house. My husband was outside working on a few things

He noticed that the guy gave him a tract and that was about it.

He noted that they just seemed to be going through the motions.

Great thread! One of the most valuable things about this forum is it allows a wide variety of people from all over the country, or the world, to chime in and confirm that your own suspicions are correct and that what you are seeing locally is universal.

Quite often there's a new thread on the forum that discusses whether the dubs are 'really' losing members and seeing declining attendance.

A topic like this one supports our sense that the dubs in general are losing interest and zeal, so whether the 'official' WTS figures reflect it or not the number of truly active JWs is way, way down from what it was a few years ago. And we all know that's true.
