What do you know? And, How do you know it?

Remember how certain you were as a JW?

You just KNEW what you knew was right 100%

You staked your life on it, didn't you?

But, now you look back and find you were "dead" wrong!

What have you done to change your methodology of being CERTAIN?

Have you done anything at all? Have you just traded one set of beliefs for another? What is different?

WHAT DO YOU KNOW? HOW DO YOU KNOW IT?

    Terry,

When I was a "dub", I don't think I really "knew" anything. I had doubts for a long time but was too scared to ask anyone about them--never realy understood the blood thing, never really understood why we couldn't celebrate birthdays and on and on and on. When I escaped, I decided to relearn things that had been "taught" to me. My husband has helped me a lot to try and be a critical thinker--look things up, don't just take someone's word on something. Research, and them some more research.

I still don't know much, but I am learning

Terry, back off! Epistemological mind-twisting questions like this are my turf. LOL

Have you just traded one set of beliefs for another?

An analogy I've often used is that, unless a person has made a fundamental paradigm shift, then all they've done is move around on the same plate--they used to be in the peas, and now they're in the carrots; but still on the same plate. Next year, they could be in the potatoes.

I like the way you think.

I was never sure 100% that it was the truth. After the cult i have no beliefs because i don't want to trade one belief for another and get trapped again. I do keep my mind open but only so far as nothing is certain and nothing is as it seems.

    I AM.

Would you like to challenge that?

Say Terry , are you a long lost relative of Minimus?

    Terry:LOL

I think this one appeals (to me, at least) because it's so direct in it's simplicity.
It's challenging to one and all... I hope.

    kls:
LOL, I was just thinking earlier this night that Min has competition
    He's survived it, before, though.

    LT:

    I AM.

Would you like to challenge that?

Sure, let's go for it, eh?

    Define "I AM."

Is this like "I think, therefore I am."?

If so, then how do you know that what you think is what you think you think?

Not trying to be obtuse here, mate.

    Regards,

    Craig
