    Hey folks,

I was just doing some thinkning, and man that can be dangerious, but maybe some of the former bethel members can answer this. How often does any of the GB ever go out door to door? Or perhaps they just leave all that footwork to the R&F. It would sure be interesting to see their "Field Service Reports". As you all know the Gospels had Jesus showing by example, he preached he taught, and so forth, so, do these modern day Jesus' reps do the same?? or do they sit on their butts in NY making sure everyone else is hoofing it around from Door to Door?

According to Ray Franz, very little actual door to door work is done by the Governing Body.

I growing up in the city never heard of GB members going door to door. They in fact counted the time when they gave public talks. This put thier wives in a dilema because how were they going to get thier ten in? I remember Bro Gangas came to my hall when I was a teen to give a public talk, stayed for the WT, gave the final prayer and he flew out the door back to the warmth and security of Bethel. Can you imagine a GB member knocking doors in the housing projects of NYC or any other city's urban area?

It is also rumored that GB members were able to turn thier room tv screens off and they drank wine instead of cheap gin.

Although my stint at Bethel was a long time ago, in the mid- to late-sixties I can confirm first-hand that it's a rare ``higher-up" that goes door to door with any regularity. I used to assist in collecting the field service slips in the Brooklyn Heights congregation where biggies like Knorr and Suiter were assigned. They invariably turned in slips with hours in the low-mid single digits, and I never saw them present at a meeting for field service. Most likely, the hours they counted were for talks given.

One of my regular duties was a monthly turn as 124 Columbia Heights weekend receptionist. On Sunday mornings when I was assigned, my first task was to go down to the St. George Hotel newsstand and pick up at least a half dozen New York Times to be placed at the doors of the biggies like George Couch and Grant Suiter, etc. There were so many senior staffers hanging out at Bethel on Sundays in casual clothes that we used to call them the ``Ban-Lon Brigade," a reference to the cotton knit polo shirts they favored.

As I've recounted several times in related threads, senior Bethelites are notorious slackers when it comes to field service and meetings in the local congregations to which they're assigned. ``Bethel work comes first" is an oft-invoked mantra when convenient to skip out on a meeting and hang back at Bethel... and nobody, least of all a Circuit Overseer, would dare object.

Jesus didn't go door to door, why should they?

Actually, the GB should have tons of hours if they use the pioneer tactics everyone else uses. Think about it. Give a WT to the skycap at the airport. Start your time. Fly to Brazil or someplace. Give a WT to the flight attendent. When you get there, give a WT to the cab driver. Give a WT to the bellhop at the hotel. End your time. There. You've got more hours in one day than most publishers get in a month.

ow here's a ducky fairy tale for you, Dear Flock:
Some years ago, the people of Fubar elected a handsome prince to be the Grand Fubar, and live in a big white house in the Shining City on the Hill. But the Grand Fubar had a problem. He was continually tormented by the evil Zipper Fairy, who caused him to bad things to young women and small animals.

After a while, he began to look a lot like a Pervert Duck, and the word began to spread out from the Shining City.

So the Grand Fubar ordered all the Fubarians to gather in front of the City walls. The Grand Fubar stood on the wall and swore to all the Fubarians that the rumors were false. But there was conflicting evidence, and the people began to say: "Yea, verily, the Grand Fubar walketh like a Liar Duck".
Then the Grand Fubar went before the High Court of Fubar, swore on the Sword of Wog the Molester to tell the truth, and was caught lying again. And the people said "Yea, verily. He quacketh like a Perjurer Duck." So why should the GB of all FUBAR's go out in the service for? They don't need to as long as they got droids doing it.
