The Good Book? My arse it is!

    I'll kick us off.

    (1 Corinthians 7:8-9) 8

Now I say to the unmarried persons and the widows, it is well for them that they remain even as I am. 9 But if they do not have self-control, let them marry, for it is better to marry than to be inflamed [with passion].

So there you go guys and girls, if you just can't control the urge don't take care of yourself and don't have a short, shallow, stress relieving physical relationship. No. Get married!! Fer cryin' out loud.

    Any more for any more?

Well this was in the Hebrew scriptures not the Greek, but it still sucks...

If a man raped a woman, if she was married you could stone him, but if she was single (i.e. a virgin) she had to marry him. WTF!!!! (cant quote a scripture cos im not such a good student, but im sure someone will find it).

"And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:/For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

"There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses." Ez 23:20

Not really bad advice per se. I like to cite biblical porn once in a while.

    On a more serious note,

In Acts 15, "Abstain from blood." Really bad advice in my opinion.

The scriptures that comes to mind are:

Exodus 22:16 - "Now in case a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged, and he actually lies down with her, he is to obtain her without fail as his wife for the purchase price."
Deuter 22:28 - "In case a man finds a girl, a virgin who has not been engaged, and he actually seizes her and lies down with her, and they have been found out, 29 the man who lay down with her must also give the girl’s father fifty silver shekels, and she will become his wife due to the fact that he humiliated her. He will not be allowed to divorce her all his days."

*scriptures quoted from New World Translation. Feel free to compare with other translations.

This scripture is not advice in itself, but it has been incorporated into advice against pursuit of an informed opinion, against critical thinking, against a proper secular education (higher education for JWs, education in evolution theory for evangelical Christians), producing stagnation of thought.

    1 Corinthians 1:19-21, 26-28:

19 For it is written: "I will make the wisdom of the wise [men] perish, and the intelligence of the intellectual [men] I will shove aside." 20 Where is the wise man? Where the scribe? Where the debater of this system of things? Did not God make the wisdom of the world foolish? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not get to know God, God saw good through the foolishness of what is preached to save those believing....

26 For YOU behold his calling of YOU, brothers, that not many wise in a fleshly way were called, not many powerful, not many of noble birth; 27 but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put the wise men to shame; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put the strong things to shame; 28 and God chose the ignoble things of the world and the things looked down upon, the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are...
