Letter read from RBC - THEY ARE LOOKING FOR ELDERS (IDEALLY WITH CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE) to spend 3 months or more down in New Orleans - for oversight and construction. Having children and family is not a barrier. Main probelm is combatting and eradicating mould.

so what does this mean... They are actually going to do something for members in their religon? I bet they will be asked to make a donation of substance for the volunatry work these 'elders' perform.

    Good luck.

I don't mean to sound cynical but I have a background in hazardous materials and that is no easy task. Definitely NOT something for volunteers, they need professionals for that. Their best bet would be just to demolish everything and try to rebuild once the mold is gone from the area. You could try and throw out the drywall and the flooring but as bad as New Orleans was flooded, I imagine there would be mold inside the walls too. If it's not completely eradicated, it will just keep coming back.

But they wouldn't want my advice, I'm just a girl.

    You're absolutely right Saoirse,

It's best to just tear it all down and start over considering how bad the flood is.

Yeah, they won't listen to you, you're just a girl. But don't feel bad, they don't listen to the boys either. If anyone speaks up with a suggestion we are promply DF'D for apostacy.

I mean, how dare we offer a better suggestion that is contrary to the WT?

Yes, I concur with that statement. That is the main problem the JW's have beginning at the top of the organisational ladder. The trouble with the WT mold is that it becomes worse as they try to cover clean it up.

If you folks havn't seen the installation used for staging volunteer workers in Mobile, it's quite the sight! Space for sleeping tents, outdoor showers, privies, mobile kitchen and dining rooms all next door to the equipment yard.

Here's the deal, the volunteers fix homes, the society sends a bill for the materials used and what the labor would have cost outside the society. The homeowner is then asked to search his concious and mail a check. If there is an insurance payment that also belongs to the Society.

When I helped there were tons of people with no construction experience. When they get hurt doing this kind of work there is no help $ from the Society even though the Society is in essence acting as the project GC. When the injured people sue they are DFed.

Will they be working on all JW homes down there, or just the brothers who have home insurance? Keep it mind that it is standard practice for the WTS to demand the insurance checks from those that they have "helped" rebuild. Since many in New Orleans didn't have home insurance I just wondered........

It's all PR. They have a "face" to present to the world about the Dub religion being the absolute TRUE religion cuz of it's zealous, brotherly, quintessentially Christian members...........blah, blah, blah.

Doesn't Bethel have some extra rooms open that they could house the homeless JW's in?
