    Just wondering.

Well, I'll tell you how I found out. I'm not a JW and had no idea that such a relationship (WT & UN) would be something so POOPOO

Right after 9-11, I kept hearing about NGOs. If you want to donate to help etc., look up an NGO, like that status would be trustworthy.

So I went to the UNs Website, navigated to the list of NGOs and there was WatchTower right there with all the other Ws, along with Red Cross, Catholic Relief, etc. etc.

That was back in 2001 and I didn't know the history of the teachings on this specific demon. But when I started reading the impact on this site, the Guardian News, I was shocked like the rest of em. Esp. cause I had seen for myself that the WT was on the list - which means they specified, and applied, year after year. Then I bought the book Babylon the Great Has Fallen - and any shread of integrity or honesty, or decency I might have held for this SO CALLED religion had vanished. It was downhill after that.

JWs are so adamant that satan uses worldlies to plant this stuff against them, there was no backing out of this one in my mind.

    sincerely, WP

    Will power,

How has the WTS handled this scandal in the congregations?

    Have they offered an explanation?

Elders were sent a letter but told only to answer questions to those who asked and not to broadcast it from the platform. If somebody asked they were told to tell the publishers it was for a library card - if the publisher showed a bad attitude --- well you can guess the outcome - THE BIG D

    Sorry, I can not resist:

"The Big D" --> sounds like a web site featuring woman with large, erm, cup sizes!!! ;)

Ok, back on point: I infer from your question that Zev and Hawk "broke" the story. Is that true? I'm not saying it isn't true, I simply don't know and have always wondered how the story broke and who, if anyone fed the story to the Guardian (which broke the story into the "real newspaper" world.

    For real!!!

The first thing the elder did after I mentioned it was to ask, "Who else have you told about this?"

He should have been investigating the WTBTS if he already had a letter from HQ.

Is that a red flag or what?

"The UN is a bad, bad political animal but we crawled right up on its back for a wild ride for 10 years. Don't you dare call us a harlot. Sit down, shut up and get fed like the rest of the sheep."

I was wondering if all the elders knew even on a local level, or were just certain larger congregations or specific districts. Somehow I doubt the elders here even have a clue that the org was in with the un, I brought it up once about 8 months ago to tell my cousin who is or was a ms (not sure ive been out for a few years now) He just dismissed it as apostates making up this information even though I had copies of the un's records with the borg listed on it as a ngo. So i think on a wholescale very few rank and file know anything and they are going to try and keep it that way. What a bunch of hypocrites and two faced liars, if any rank and file got involved or even brought up about the watchtower-un affiliation, they would be ousted quickly and quietly. Its bs as far as im concerned, they are two faced, say one thing do another and threaten any who expose their hypocrasy. Sad real sad, hard to believe dubs are so mind numbed that they quickly explain away the un fiasco slicker then a greased politician.

The Watch Tower Corporations are like the movie The Wizard Of Oz. There are two realities, the presented (staged) reality, and the real one. In the movie, the Wizard stood behind a curtain and presented a world to the people that was not true. The Watch Tower has it's own virtual curtain and the UN association and things like the Pay Attention book and secret elder meetings are behind the curtain.

Some Witnesses have banked on the Society being who they are and what they are very heavily. It's imperative that the facade presented by the Society be true and those people will protect it in the face of overwhelming rational evidence. Evidence that disagrees with the facade.

I was an elder when this thing broke and was at the KH the night the PO announced "a short elder's meeting" would be held immediately afterwards in the library.

At the meeting, he read the letter. I sat quietly amused because it had already been posted on this forum weeks earlier and I had already read it, followed up on all the posts about the UN/NGO thing, and done all the associated "research." So I was beyond shocked and no longer surprised.

To my amazement, the reaction in the room (among about 10 elders) was as if they'd just read the dates of the next district convention. There was silence, then one or two questions seeking clarification about procedure:

"So, we don't post this letter on the board, but if someone asks, we can refer to it?"

"You can't show it to anyone, but you can explain that the WTS needed a library card from the UN and applied for one and that this whole thing has been blown way out of proportion by apostates."

    Everyone got up and left.

My sense in the weeks after that was that elders fell into two camps. At least half the elders in that meeting had no clue what this letter was even referring to and filed it away as some vague news about an apostate rumor circulating that they wouldn't need to think about again because no one was probably ever going to ask about it. The others recognized the situation was a bit unusual, but they had their marching orders and weren't going to concern themselves further. The "library card defense" was put into play wherever necessary after that, and it wasn't necessary very often because VERY FEW DUBS even know about this UN thing to this day.

What you have to understand is that for dubs who are confirmed lifers, and this includes most of the elders and ministerial servants in the average KH, the first reaction hearing news of this sort is... denial. Rather than process the information the way you and I would, their defenses go up. I can't tell you how many elders I've heard say something like "I don't want to hear anything negative!" whenever news reports cast JWs in a bad light. They just dismiss it out of hand. [This is why I'm always skeptical when someone posts on this forum that " a good way" to educate JWs about the WTS is to tell 'em about the UN/NGO thing. Most simply won't hear it the way you think they will.]

Has anyone a link to the letter that was sent to the local congregations? I have seen the one sent to the Branch in UK, but never the Body of Elders letter. Surely someone has scanned and posted it somewhere.
