I had closed down for the night, as I've got work in the morning, but I just received a TXT mesage from a friend. It's not JW related, but I felt the need to post it: http://www.light-a-candle.org/

It seems this Baptist Pastor is to be executed tomorrow by being beaten to death

He moved to East Timor with his wife and young daughters an 21st April 2001.

Prayers no doubt appreciated, if that's your thang...

crazy man. i'd hate to be known as an atheist in some of these places too.

it seems that some bigots will go after anyone who disagrees with them. and then there are the bigots who are out to get xians back for the crusades.

    whatever. it's all bathwater.

It sounds like this may be just a rumor, thankfully. But it also doesn't sound like life is all rosy for the family. :-(

I had it from two sources last night and another completely unrelated one this morning.

uh, I don't know....I have a friend who's father is in East Timor and he's working for a Methodist Church out of the States. She's told me that her father says there were other things going on...I'm not clear what though. Although I have to say, I don't think a life should be taken whatever the cause....just saying it might not all have to do with him being Christian. I'm wondering if Amnesty International knows anything?

Anyway, I'll try to get more information from my friend later today.

I don't take issue over this just because he's allegedly a Christian. I think it's barbaric, period!

It links in with another recent thread:

I think it's barbaric too. I've e-mail my friend but...I'll call her later today to see if she has anymore info from her father.

I'm thinking about contacting Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch on this...

Ok, I've had some conflicting updates in the last couple of minutes.

One says that he's been released to the Philipines and another says it was a misunderstanding

Either way, he's allegedly safe and sound for now.

I'm not quite sure what his status is as the moment for sure....

But just wanted to let you know that I spoke with my friend (her dad is in E Timor). She says that her dad says that from what he heard this guy got into trouble because people were complaining that he was asking them to convert before helping them in whatever needs they had and such.

KEEP in mind though I got this information through a 2nd party. The 1st party (my friend's dad) has had no trouble in this country (and is very anti-missionary even though he's there for the Methodist Church) and might be a little biased. But I don't know for sure....

I hope he is safe and sound LT.

    Aye, I hear he's safe.

The rumour is that the local Catholic Priest had stirred up some trouble for him. In some areas they can be quite dogmatic (as good as the Fundamentalists), though every one that I've met has been calm enough.

Allegedly at one point he was surrounded by a mob with sticks and stones, but they dispersed. This might have been the source of the "beating" part of the rumour.
