Studying the new "Keep on the Watch!" brochure - "Which things?" (page 17)

Now we come to the section "The God who Promises These Things? on page 17 of the new brochure ("Keep on the Watch!").

"This name appears some 7,000 times in the Bible in its original languages."

Another switch here! "Which things?" ought to be the question for the title presupposes that they are speaking of the god who gives the Bible message. Of course it's not the Bible message they herald but the Witness message - something quite different.

Yet in the blink of an eye, the reader is seduced to linking two things, namely God, the Creator with the Witnesses' message. If the reader goes along with that, then they will readily accept the notion of joining "God's Organisation" and that it (the WTS) is the channel that God uses to dispense thruth.

But if the reader refuses to accept the link, then the WTS' message loses its strength. It becomes something to be debated.

If the message is not from God, then the WTS is as weak as water.

So, what are "those things" and are they real? That is the question.

Wait Ozzie, I'm confused. I don't have the brochure to look at. What name do they claim appears 7,000 times in the Bible?

    G'day under74,

Ozzie you need to give him the authorization info for that link. I forget what it is.

    Hi Happy One!

I never used an authorisation. When the authorisation window came up I just hit "Enter" and I got straight in.

    Kinda like "Open, sezame!"

    Cheers, Ozzie

    7,000 times

    true

    but only in the OT

    and

only the four Hebrew letters of the Tetragrammaton (Yod, He, Waw and He)(YHWH)

The Hebrew language has no vowels, but were supplied by the reader and have been lost over time. The tetragrammaton has been found in the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Septuagint.

    The Jewish Encyclopedia says this:

the word "YHWH" is found to occur 5,989 times in the Bible.

I'm not sure why the WTS and they disagree on the numbers.

I had been a JW for some time before it dawned on me that the tetragrammaton never appeared in the NT nor was it in any of the earliest manuscripts. Those facts are obscured by the statement "7,000 times in the Bible."

    ***

    it-1 p. 324 The Divine Name ***

It is the name by which he himself chose to be identified. The Tetragrammaton (as the four Hebrew letters of God?s name are known) occurs in the Hebrew text of the Bible nearly 7,000 times

    ***

w02 4/1 p. 5 Search for God With Your Heart and Mind ***

The answer to the first question can be found in over 7,000 places in the Bible in its original languages

    ***

    w00 6/1 p. 5 The Changing Face of "Christianity"?Acceptable to God? ***

Christ and his disciples taught that there is only "one God the Father," distinguished by his personal name, Jehovah, which appears some 7,000 times in early Bible manuscripts.

    ***

    w99 6/15 p. 21 Your Creator?Learn What He Is Like ***

In Hebrew manuscripts of the Bible, his name appears some 7,000 times as four consonants that can be transliterated YHWH or JHVH, commonly pronounced Jehovah in English

    *** w97 10/1 pp. 16-17 Loyally Upholding God?s Inspired Word ***

God had his personal name included in the Bible more than 7,000 times. He wants people to know that name and the qualities of the One who bears it.

How many times do you find an explanation of why it is not in the NT?

If you notice the picture on this page, all the women have skirts/dresses on and the men are in casual clothes, the boys even in shorts!!!!. Note too that only fruits and vegetables are pictured as food. There are sailboats on the river below and the boy is flying a kite, evidently acceptable recreation in the new world.

Yes, the WTS have grossly misrepresented the God of the Bible. He's become a god in the image of the WTS.

Not just that, but they've misrepresented what God does and will do in the future. It's "these things" that I'm focusing on in my post. Readers of the brochure should be aware of "the thimble and the pea" trick that the WTS uses here with regard to the God they are bearing witness about. The writers claim that God will do certain things and then on page 17 state that this God is the God whose name is mentioned in the Bible etc etc and worse is to come - that this same God resides in the WTS!!

    A great discussion.

How many times do you find an explanation of why it is not in the NT?

Does the WTS have an official responce to that?

Discussion with my family, they said that they reason they know that the JW's are acceptable to God and the true religion is because they use the name "Jehovah" and no-one else did. So, I asked, "Well Jesus never used it?" and they responded, "Just because it isn't recorded that he used it doesn't mean he didn't."

Does the WTS claim that it appears 7,000 times because they added it 1,000 times, repetition for emphasis?

    G'day Ozzie

"These things" which the WT confuses the JW with all fit a pattern and characteristic of the name that they follow.. I have posted this before but no one has ever commented on it. But it explains so much. What do you think?

This is strong's concordance look up word #1943. If you were going to pick a translation of a word to call your god - why would you pick one that has this sort of translation by the hebrews which is as they claim - the same god? "Ja"hovah" as is god of.....
