List of Branch Offices and Country Offices of Jehovah's Witnesses

Hi everyone

I'm trying to put together a comprehensive master list of Watch Tower Society branch offices that corresponds roughly with the figure published in the Worldwide report.

I feel it would be useful to monitor the number and location of existing branch offices, because I believe the distribution of branch offices worldwide is a good indicator of the Society's financial wellbeing. We now seem to be entering a period of branch office closures, with last year seeing an unprecendented 16% reduction in branch office numbers over the year before. It will be interesting to see how things develop moving forward, but I'm hoping that by keeping a list of the offices we will be better placed to keep track of the "retreat" if branch office numbers continue to dwindle.

Here we go...

To my knowledge, the following branches serve the following countries...

United States branch serves Bahamas, Bermuda and Turks & Caicos Islands

Germany branch serves Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

Mexico branch serves Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Belize.

Australia branch serves East Timor and New Zealand.

Britain branch serves Malta and Ireland.

Denmark branch serves Norway, Greenland, Faeroe Islands and Sweden.

France branch serves French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Reunion, St Barthelemy, St Martin and St Pierre & Miquelon

I have pieced together the above information from the Society's website and yearbooks, but it is EXTREMELY difficult as the Society doesn't publish a "master list" of branches, so some of the above information is based on guesswork. As I said, if anyone can help in correcting the list and keeping it up-to-date, that would be superb. I'm hoping this thread can prove to be a valuable resource, both for myself and others.

Sorry I can't be of much help except to comment that branches "serving" so-called publishers and other countries do so in the manner of Matt 23:13,15.

(Matthew 23:13-15) . . .“Woe to YOU, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because YOU shut up the kingdom of the heavens before men; for YOU yourselves do not go in, neither do YOU permit those on their way in to go in. 14 —— 15 “Woe to YOU, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because YOU traverse sea and dry land to make one proselyte, and when he becomes one YOU make him a subject for Ge·hen′na twice as much so as yourselves.

Good luck with that. The structure is byzantine. In Canada, charities are listed on a public website.

You can find all the Kingdom Halls by searching for "Jehovah", and the branch office I think you call it, by searching "Watch Tower" (two words).

As a side benefit, you can find their annual tax returns and their reported "income".

this speaks of 30 "zones." What are these, I know, U.S. is one. I know there was a special "zone" invite day last year with a report that Barbara got for us.

Switzerland had one of the first international branches and now it has none.

The lack of transparency by the leadership of this organization is curious.

It's odd what this PUBLISHING company does and does NOT PUBLISH ...

Things that make you go, "Hmmm!"

Good work!

The lack of transparency by the leadership of this organization is curious.

Very true. You would think at least one page of their three websites would be dedicated to giving a breakdown of precisely which offices are branch offices and which are country offices, but all you get is a list of addresses for each country, some of which are duplicated (i.e. because only one branch handles several countries).

Perhaps they keep the list under wraps because it is on a "need to know" basis. It's also possible that they don't want people seeing that their branch numbers are decreasing, but then they declined to publish the branch numbers even when they were increasing, so it's hard to believe that's the reason. Either way, you are left with a complete lack of transparency - especially considering so much onus is placed on donating to the worldwide work. Surely if you're going to ask people to support it you should be a little more open about how it is being administered?

What's frustrating is that the yearbook tells you only when new branches are dedicated - it doesn't give you a list of closures. For example, I only found out about Denmark taking on branch responsibility for Norway and Sweden on this forum. You simply wouldn't know about it otherwise. There is also a passing mention on page 16 of the Aug 15th Watchtower about six South American branches being "merged" with the Mexican branch, but this story was related in passing more as a way of boasting of how the brothers from various countries are working so well together now they have been thrust into the same offices.

There is one small mystery I'm hoping one of our South American posters can help me out with.

According to the 2004 Yearbook, the Guyana branch was dedicated on February 15, 2003. Less than 10 years later, this "branch" is missing from the Society's extensive list of worldwide offices. There is a "French Guiana" on the list (the address given is for the French bethel), but this is a different country altogether. It seems hard to believe that the fall from grace could be so swift and brutal that the country went from having its own branch in 2003 to not even a country office in 2012, but without any other information that seems the only reasonable conclusion to draw.

What's wrong with the list of the branches at the back of the Yearbook?
