  Yes tenyearsafter, not only are those numbers real, but expected and predicted by many experts within the system, those experts were warning the administration but told the delay of a rollout was " not an opition".

  These are very good articles focusingon the website failures and lockups.

  and talespin, no the governement shutdown is irrelevant to this problem. The website was supposed to begin in 2011, but was handed to the main contracting company with specs and requirements, in early spring 2013. Then changes were made over and over.

  Never mind....edited as far as signing up, on the news it said that more people are signing up immediately more than expected...3 major news channels...its one reason it is being overwhelmed.

  sliding scale to zero dollars. What does it cover ? Is there

  free choice of doctors and access to specialist like here in Canada?

  Is there a co-pay ? Not here. Does everyone get the same card ?

  Don't give up America, keep working on it, the insurance companies

  have you all locked down and will fight universal health care.

  Its like universal education, you know, government funded for

  everyone kindergarden through high school ? How come thats

  not socialism to you ? But universal health care is ?

  Depending on your insurance company it varies. But I think ~$200 is the average full cost (for me at least) CURRENTLY and it's likewise subsidized on a sliding scale for those less fortunate (it starts kicking in at 300% of the poverty limit). The cost is supposed to go down as more people get in because the profits for the companies are capped by law.

  There is free choice of doctors and specialists typically for emergencies although usually you have to pick an "in-network" doctor for preventative care. That is regardless of insurance here in the US, even the ACA won't change that.

  There is sometimes a co-pay, sometimes not. The co-pay is likewise capped to a certain number depending on your income and there is a maximum in the law too (I think it's $25 max for specialist visits). There is a co-insurance cost though just like any other insurance (which is also the case in Canada and European countries) but that is likewise capped depending on your income and for higher income (if you make more than $75k/year) maxes at $5k/person or $11k/family (which is peanuts compared to current insurance costs in the US that cap mine for example at $10k/20k and others even have it capped at $50k/100k). Those costs are (and were even before ACA) tax-deductible once reaching over $2500 (or a certain percentage of your income).

  All-in-all it's a step in the right direction for the US. People will finally be able to enjoy health care costs similar to most developed countries. Currently, if you go to the hospital without insurance (my friend has a respiratory condition for example) you can only get emergency care and that costs $15k/pop for a simple fluid drain. If she could afford insurance (which she will now that she won't have to pay for it) she can go do that at a regular doctor visit for free (the procedure costs $300 at a regular care facility). I don't know what will happen to the accrued debts of the poor in the US (my friend owes about $250,000 to the hospital) but at least now she won't have to wait until she turns blue before getting it fixed.
