JW Leaks has published the June 3, 2013, United Nations General Assembly Analytical Report on Conscientious Objection to Military Service.

Page 3, paragraph 4, of the report states:

"The following non-governmental organizations responded: the Associazione Comunita Papa Giovanni XXIII, the Centre for Civil and Political Rights, the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection, the European Organisation of Military Associations, Forum 18 News Service, the German Institute for Human Rights, Human Rights Watch, the International Fellowship of Reconciliation, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Quaker United Nations Office, the Russian NGO Soldiers’ Mothers of St. Petersburg, the Union of Conscientious Objectors, and War Resisters International."

This 17 page report deals substantially with Jehovah's Witnesses.

Also published by JW Leaks is a submission made to the United Nations by The European Association of Jehovah's Christian Witnesses in relation to Tajikistan (dated June 12, 2013).

And.....it still refers to them as an NGO.

That I think is the point.

Has anyone sent this info or similar to Stephen Bates of the Guardian? Or asked the UN about this?

Well this is potentially pretty scandalous. After withdrawing from their UN NGO status following the Guardian newspaper scandal some years ago, aree they now again an NGO member of the UN or not....can anyone please confirm?

IS THE WATCHTOWER SOCIETY A UNITED NATIONS NGO AGAIN????

Regardless of their official status within the UN - they are probably referred to as a NGO because they are not a government.

They are not referred to as a NGO, it says that " The following non-governmental organizations responded: the Associazione Comunita Papa Giovanni XXIII, the Centre for Civil and Political Rights, the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection, the European Organisation of Military Associations, Forum 18 News Service, the German Institute for Human Rights, Human Rights Watch, the International Fellowship of Reconciliation, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Quaker United Nations Office, the Russian NGO Soldiers’ Mothers of St. Petersburg, the Union of Conscientious Objectors, and War Resisters International."

There are no capital letters in the phrase "non-governmental organizations", so they are just that - organizations outside of the government, non-official. But if you see the Russian NGO Soldiers' Mothers of St. Petersburg" they are careful to use the capital letters there in identifying the group as a "real" NGO.

Are they not supposed to have nothing to do with the UN , don't they refer to it as the Scarlet Beast in Revelation ? Even if not officially an NGO still how do they have the nerve to go asking for help off the UN . What would r&f think of that ? Hypocracy at it's best.

The Watchtower is de facto an NGO or "Non Governmnetal Orgaization." It's not its NGO status per se, but rather its application for recognition and membership on the list of approved NGOs to the UN that was the source of the scandal.
