    Watchtower (magic)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search

A Watchtower is a spirit guardian of one of the four cardinal points in both ceremonial magic and the neopagan religion of Wicca. Alternately, the Watchtowers are the abodes of the guardians. Often believed to represent the four elements, the Watchtowers are invoked during ritual to cast the magic circle. They may be pictured in the imagination or represented with tablets or other physical symbols.

In many Wicca and Witchcraft systems the Watchtowers are evocational symbols of spiritual beings known as the Watchers. Each Watchtower is associated with one of the four quarters of north, east, south and west. In some traditions the Watchtowers are associated with the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water. They are also each linked to a specific star. The north Watchtower is Fomalhaut, the east is Aldebaran, Regulus marks the south, and Antares is the west. Archangels are also used; the North / Earth Watchtower is Uriel, the East / Air Watchtower is Raphael, the South / Fire Watchtower is Michael, and the West / Water Watchtower is Gabriel.

Also don't forget the occult origins of the winged sun disc and the upward triangle/pyramid (representing the phallus), both featured in the early days of the WTS.

Yes, this is true. Also, the pentagram was once a symbol of Christianity.

Up until medieval times, the five points of the pentagram represented the five wounds of Christ on the Cross. It was a symbol of Christ the Saviour. This is in stark contrast to today where the pentagram is criticized by modern Fundamentalist Christians, as being a symbol of evil.

The church eventually chose the cross as a more significant symbol for Christianity, and the use of the pentagram as a Christian symbol gradually ceased.

LOL! Nice hat: it would fun to be a JW, if only to show up at a DC wearing one of those (only to be immediately ejected from said DC)....

Iam horrified and shocked to learn about the spiritistic origin of the Watchtower. This gives me more reason to trash any Watchtower magazine I find in the Laundry. They tend to leave them hoping tenants will pick them up. No, i am not goign to allow that. Hi Gayle, thanks for sharing.

Why this would be a surprise to anyone is amazing to me.

They open boast about their teachings being channeled material from invisible spirit beings. From Pastor Russell onward, they claim to receive instruction from their anointed members who have died and are communicating from the spirit world. With those claims being a foundation for their teachings, how could anyone expect anything different than spiritistic practices?
