But here's the stinger: "...after 17 years, Steve accepted the truth".

Let me fix that for us -

But here's the stinger: "...after 17 years, Steve TURNED SENILE and accepted the truth".

I'd have told her to make Steve's ass some hot grits & molasses for dinner.

    I Googled it. . . still don't get it. What's this now?

Dumb WT: "Refuse to admit you're in a cult and your husband will eventually come into The Truth".

Dumber WT: "Refuse to stand up to your abusive husband and he will eventually come into The Truth".

    Any questions?

Translation: GOOD Christian wives don't get beat. If you are getting beat, you must be doing something wrong---oh and proving a point is one of those wrongs. What's a few bruises over 17 years if the reward is your abuser accepting the truth? Oh, and btw, does he still beat her? The assumption that he has "accepted the truth" and therefore does not hit her anymore is laughable.

From the same article, in an earlier paragraph, there's this...

8 The apostle Paul advises Christians
not to leave a marriage partner just because
    that individual is an unbeliever.*
    (Read 1 Corinthians 7:12-16.)

    (Bottom of page)

*Paul’s counsel does not rule out legal separation
in extreme situations. That is a serious personal
    decision.

If physical beatings are tolerated, what does the GB consider to be an 'extreme situation'? Perhaps cannibalism?

Hey, GB? YOU guys are cruisin' for a bruisin.

Keep it up. You're gonna get hurt, son.

    "I Googled it. . . still don't get it. What's this now?"

Look up Madea and grits on YouTube, you might get it then.

Essentially, the experience says: "Stop feeling sorry for yourself and be more Christian, and your husband might stop beating you."

It took a few readings for me to grasp just how outrageous this paragraph is. The Governing Body, or whoever they get to write this drivel, really are losing it.

I may try and get this under the noses of some womens welfare groups.

    Fuck the GB.

Emotions aside, what they're saying is don't push someone past his or her limits. Makes sense and there's nothing wrong with it.
