Ha, serves them right. They are so (wrongly)picky about who is allowed in the org by disfellowshipping those that disagree with them and here is someone they missed...

Too bad all criminals don't say they are JW's when caught..wouldn't that be a hoot?

    WTBTS would have a fit..

Also, what happened to the "Turn your cheek" talks, What happened to the "Jehovah will take care of evildoers in his time", and "Wait on Jehovah to set things straight" talks..

Are they losing faith that Jehovah will take care of things in the future?

Are they suing just because he claimed to be a JW? Surely I must have that wrong...

    Snoozy..going back to reread..

I noticed that newspaper has other articles about the JW's. I don't think they like them...

They are suing the newspaper because they are supposedly incorrectly saying the man is a JW.

They aren't suing the man himself. Just the newspaper and the writers of the article.

This is the main issue that causes many forms of media to pause before they get involved in writing or reporting things about the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower Society.

Years ago I was regularly appearing on a Montreal tv show as their "resident abuse specialist" (their term for me - not mine) I asked them about doing a show on cults and explained my connection to the subject. They wouldn't touch it. Their main concern was that I might at some point or a caller (it was a TV call-in talk show) might mention the JWs or the WTS. Their major concren was lawsuits by the WTS. I don't know if they had run up against the issue before they they weren't touching it.

I suspect this is one of the reasons why so many programs, like Oprah and Dr. Phil are reluctant to deal with personal issues of people in cults. Even though Oprah has probably more money than the WTS (and her income is increasing while the WTS' money is decreasing) she has been pretty reluctant to deal with the issue.

News programs like Dateline, Sunday, etc that did exposee pieces on the sexual abuse problem within the WTS was different becasue they were able to get hold of legal documents to support what they were saying on the show. They documented everything they said very carefully. So they didn't get sued.

A newspaper though is publishing the news. In this case the neighbors said the accused was a JW. It might be hard for the WTS to win on this. The most they might be able to get is a retraction. It isn't like they are claiming that he is a JW. They are reporting what other people said.

I can recall a time when all you had to do was associate with the jws and go in service and you can be considered a jws. They used it to pubically reprove teens years ago. They were not baptised, but still considered jws. I know they changed that some years ago, but at one time that was true. So that argument is not true, not in times past at least. Anyone with a WT CD that goes back to the 60-80's could probably find this.

was - reporting time, handing in a slip is what will cause you to be counted in the 7 million or whatever. You can be baptized for years but inactive in service you ain't counted as no jw. But hand in a slip and you is. I get the technicality issue but that's how it is. And if you is an unbaptized publisher and get into trouble you will be dealt with.

Also, even as an unbaptised publisher, if you start associating with apostates or reading apostate literature they will announce it. I think their ( the jws who are suing)argument is not correct. I think it should be easy enough to shoot that down.

"...Specifically, they are accused of “publishing and disseminating wrong information concerning honor and dignity of Jehovah’s Witnesses.”"
part from a media News Report

Anyway, is there any honor and dignity within JWs? Hardly and far from it.

I just came across this and was about to post it.

I still don't understand why they're suing. Did they sue other news shows that did stories on JW/unbaptized publisher murderers? Is it because of the situation in Armenia? What's the deal?

    This is interesting http://www.panarmenian.net/eng/politics/news/11702/ARMENIAN_APOSTOLIC_CHURCH_CALLS_CONGREGATION_TO_SPIRITUAL_STRUGGLE

The Supreme Spiritual Council confirmed its adherence to Christian values such as freedom of conscience, however stating inadmissible the situation with the registration of the religious organizations, the activities of which violate the RA legislation as well as freedom of conscience within their own organization. The activities of totalitarian sects including Jehovah's Witnesses not only conflict with spiritual values of the Armenian people but also violate the bill "On freedom of Conscience" and human rights such as children's rights, rights referring to public health, etc.

Wasanelder: "Unbaptized publishers are people who have expressed and "interest" in being a witness and not a witness."

If they have been "approved" to be an "unbaptised publisher" or to go door to door, then they ARE REPRESENTING the WT. They must be APPROVED to be given that status, and to be given the mags and neighborhood assignments, therefore they are representatives whether they are baptized or not.

Jehovah’s Witnesses accuse the Public Television of Armenia of “publishing and disseminating wrong information concerning their honor and dignity.”

    'scuse me??? ...honor and dignity???

    Since when?

Religion has far too much power. Too bad they feel they must use it to bully and maniuplate the media.

Keep sending money to the worldwide work!...someone's gotta pay them legal bills!
