    G'day all,

How's your weekend going? I trust that you're finding time for a bit of "peace and quiet". Mrs Ozzie and I have enjoyed being out in the crisp autumn air here in the highlands. A clear blue sky and walking hand in hand.............aaaahhhhh!!!!!!!!

We had a really fine asian meal and.....no, there was NO shiraz!!! But when we returned home there was a beautiful short black espresso.

Now it's time to relax and reminisce with our regular weekend poll. Are ya ready? Good. This weekend's poll question is:

Why do the elders visit in pairs?

    1. So they don't get lost!

    2. So that one can be the prompter when the other forgets his lines.

    3. They just like each other.

    4. So that both can count the time.

    5. So that they have a witness to what is said.

    6. It saves time in preparing for a judicial committee.

    7. One is in training.

    8. They have to make it look official.

    9. To save on petrol costs.

    10. So that one can hold the bag.

    11. It saves leading the field service group.

    12. Who knows????????

    13. Other (please detail)

Looking forward to reading those reminiscences!

    Enjoy.

    Cheers, Ozzie

    13. Because an elder can't visit a sister without someone else being there.

But only in a suit and tie, Pris!!!

Good one though, I'd missed that!

    Cheers, Ozzie

Freedom means not having to wear a tie.

    2. So that one can be the prompter when the other forgets his lines. Yep

    3. They just like each other - Yep, IME most of them dislike/mistrust each other, so when they find someone with a compatably twisted mind (or someone they can manipulate) they buddy up, that's why you often get the same pairings of them (or at least it's rare to see certian other elders paired up) ...

    4. So that both can count the time. That's be a bonus

    5. So that they have a witness to what is said. Of course

    6. It saves time in preparing for a judicial committee. Of course

    7. One is in training. Often

    8. They have to make it look official. Intimidate, do you mean?

    9. To save on petrol costs. Yeah, probably

    10. So that one can hold the bag. More like 'carry the bag' as in take the blame if somthing goes wrong...

    11. It saves leading the field service group. Yep, the ones who do lots of sheperding usually get fewer administrative jobs and are regarded as more spiritually qualified, so if they can stand going and talking to the troops, that's what they do.

    12. Who knows cares????????

    13. Other (please detail) Gives more of them a reason to be away from their wives more often... worldly blokes just play golf...

I only knew a very few who'd call on their own ... they were of the very few who were both Chirstians and elders ... a rare breed. They were quite open in acknoledging the failings of their fellow elders and the WTS and seem to spend half their time patching-up after the grosser excesses of some of their colleuges...

    Cheers, Max

Mostly, it's number 5 - they want two witnesses to everything. And of course, like Prisca said, they can't visit a sister alone, lest the lustful wench seduce them.

    #5

and what Prisca, and rocketman said.

My advice, never talk to more than one elder at a time, never talk to an elder on the phone, another one may be listening in.

In short, don't talk to 'em, eh?

These two. Two witnesses to a matter establishes a matter to the dubs and so if it's a matter of serious concern then two must see/hear of it.

It's also a nice time to have coffee afterwards with a fellow buddy and talk about things apart from this that isn't boring.......like huntin, and fishin, and buying new stuff, and your job.

Combination of numbers 2 & 5, I reckon . Many are uncertain of their ground. When they came around here we pointed out that he had used a scripture out of context and they just closed books and left.

If anything contentious is said of course, they will want a witness to it.

Without sounding big, I often preferred to call alone . There is nothing worse than having your partner say somethig that you totally disagree with, but you cannot say so without appearing disunited - worst situation of all in elders thinking

P S - of course if it is a nice call, why should only one of them enjoy tea and cakes?

I had heard some study being done in that men can only listen with half their brain (one side). If one doesn't hear it all the other one might pick up the slack and so in this case, two heads would be better than one.

It's probably more of a protection for themselves. satans following them everywhere,ya know.
