i posted this on another thread, but i thought a new thread might help get the ball rolling:

i have a simple question for all those that believe this war is solely about oil:

what exactly do you believe bush is going to do with the oil fields after the war?

one person responded quite simplistically: "make money, duh!"

to which i replied: id like you to be more specific. will he take control of the oil fields, declare them u.s. property, and then sell the oil to the rest of the world, taking u.s. profits? how exactly is he going to "make money"? i keep seeing all these people clamoring about how "bush just wants the oil!!"...but ive yet to see one person lay out what they believe bushs master plan to be. personally, im just curious. id like to see someone predict what will happen with this oil, that way we can check these predictions after the war. it should be a simple assignment for anyone that really thinks they know whats going on here.

so, there it is......like i said, this shouldnt be too tough for the posters that know what bush is secretly up to.

That's almost certainly EXACTLY what will happen. Probably in this order:

    1) Occupy Iraq (well, that's a given) to 'assist in disarmament until entire nation has been rendered harmless'. This will obviously take an 'undetermined amount of time'.

    2) US takes management of countries national resources (oil) for the duration to make sure profit from them does not go to funding further military development. Perhaps even an Iraqi puppet organization is created for this purpose - to make it appear this is for the Iraqi people.

    3) This puppet organization will start ceding more and more control over oil operations to their consulting partners - say Arbusto Energy/Bush Exploration, maybe the Harken oil company, perhaps Halliburton oil company, or could be Chevron oil company, for example. All oil companies with very strong ties to the current administration.

    4) Eventually, the US forces 'pull out' and the world releases a collective sigh as the US has obviously not followed through with everyones fears and taken over the world oil reserves by military control. The new Iraqi government, of course, does not object to the coalition of US oil companies controlling 100% of Iraqi oil by now.

Thus, everyone wins. Except, you know, EVERONE. The Bush family (and US by proxy) is in control of Iraqi oil, but no US military presence remains to offend those who only look at the surface of issues (*cough*entire US population*cough*).

its indeed quite simple. the oil production will be put in the hands of US oil companies and a small part under british control. the situation will be just like it was 30 years ago...the oil companies cashing in 90-95% of the profit...5% is generously given to the iraqis.

dubla...you make the mistake of thinking bush is doing this for the average american. WRONG...he is doing it for a hand full people who essentially run the US for their own profit.

    WRONG!...

The U.N. will take over 40 BILLION dollars from the oil production of the country to help reconstruct IRAQ.

thanks for the replies. so xander, your version basically cannot end up wrong, as any iraqi control of the oil will be deemed "puppet" by you.....smart prediction. are there any ways to prove this one way or the other after the fact?

when did i say bush was doing this for the average american? i will be willing to admit it was all done for profit after the fact, if that indeed becomes apparent. this thread was meant as a checking point; something to refer to after the war. im not condemning anyones predictions at this point.

The US is invading Iraq for the oil ?? You gotta be kidding !! If that were true we would be better off invading Canada as they are the number one foreign source for U.S oil. Iraq is number nine.

This info came from ABC's Sunday Morning show two or three weeks ago, where are you getting your info ??

You miss the point. Whether the Iraqis 'control' the oil fields or not is meaningless, what matters is where the MONEY from the oil goes.

I maintain it will not be going to Iraq.

I'm 100% sure, after this was and its aftermath is finished, the 'Iraqi people' will be receiving less than half the profit from their own oil wells. I'm sure the amount they see will be more like 10-25% TOPS, with the rest going to the 'US and friends' club.

U.N. will take over 40 BILLION dollars from the oil production of the country to help reconstruct IRAQ

WTF do you get this from?

What say do you think the UN will even HAVE in this, given the US has totally blown them off and told them we were going to invade Iraq how we want, when we want?

I'd be AMAZED if, after occupying Baghdad and taking control of Iraq, if the US just flew all the troops home and let the UN take over.

    LOLOL - yeah, RIGHT.

I should add, if the US DID do that - fly the troops home after deposing Saddam - and letting the UN take over....well...I'd have to seriously re-evaluate my position on the current administration.

    I....errr...don't think that's very likely.

A walk through the sea of intelligence of those who believe that Bush is in it for the oil wouldn't get the soles of your feet damp.

Shutterbug... I agree with you... and that line is one of the oldest most ridiculous left wing rhetoric they can come up with.... and they keep saying it because of the fact that most Americans SUPPORT a war with Iraq (according to the Gallup poll)... so they are left with NOTHING but trying to make damage to the president... his name... and the party in power...
