Is the USA a bully?

I was watching the news last night. The latest word from the war front is that we should be able to peaceably work out our differences with North Korea. As humiliating as it will be for us to kiss North Korea's ass, we will do so because they do have the ability to nuke our west coast.

Saddam, however, is still toast. Yep, we are gonna show old boy a thing or two.

To me, this is proof that Iraq does not have nuclear bomb capability. If they did, we would be looking for a peaceful solution to the problems that our government is telling us that we have with them.

I have often had the suspicion that the USA is the bully of the world. As a government, we go where we please, stick our noses into business that isn't ours and then flex our military muscle if the country we are bossing about tells us to go bugger ourselves. The latest news reports have helped confirm my suspicions.

This is not an insult to the Bush administration. Democrats are just as guilty.

It's time for us as a nation to reconsider just what the government is doing in the name of the American people. We must put an end to the atrocities conducted by our government under the guise of protecting "freedom and democracy".

Yep what bullies we are. Imagine a world without the USA. It would just be peaceful and loving, a paradise for all to enjoy.

    Laughable

Robyn, I won't be the one to flame you, because I agree with you. I am a Republican and I like Bush. However, and this is a big however, I am worried about our power. I did not like it when Russia was a threat. Nonetheless, they did provide a balance of power, something that does not exist now. I think that we will go to war with Iraq, even if they fully comply with inspection demands. Why? Because Bush wants to make up for his father's mistakes, and Bush is driven by emotion as well as reason, and emotion will win out. As far as Korea goes, I think we won't go after them, simply because we don't want our military resources spread across the globe.

Ah, LB, if your opinion mattered, I still wouldn't care but would still find it humorous.

    Thanks for the laugh.

Must matter to you, since you replied sweetie.

LB, sorry, your opinion doesn't matter to me except as comic relief. Again, I thank you for the laugh, sweetie. Now, I am going to save the rest of my post allotments to converse with people who's opinions mean something to me.

Subjects like this always make me feel that I'm out of my depth. I mean, nothing I could say would change anything at all! So I tend not to form too many opinions.

However, the other day brought the whole subject a little closer to home.

One of my friends' sons is due to get his anthrax injection on 5th jan. 6th jan he starts 10 days intense training to cope with heat and then he's off to war. Aeroplanes first and he in the tanks, second.

The whole thing is shit. I feel sick to my stomach.

Britain is branded with the same iron as US, Blair's new year speech today made that clear. But I think coutries will do what they want at the end of the day. If your president is thinking otherwise he is mistaken. Non-proliferation is a myth. You can find how to build nuclear weapons on the internet.

You might explain just exactly how N Korea plans to nuke the west coast? Brilliant plan you have there. The only real threat is to our ally South Korea which we hope to continue to protect. You've heard of South Korea right? A nation that doesn't consider the US a bully?

But maybe you have something here. After all the main reason some people will say or do almost anything to get a green card must be because they would rather live with a bully than to be a victim of one.

Yes. But when nuclear countries get our panties twisted in a wad(Pakistan, for instance) the US invokes sanctions against them because of the added risk of death on a BIG scale. The US bullies those they know they can; the rest they shun with sanctions.

I'd be willing to bet that if Saddam issued a statement saying that in the 10 years since the Gulf War, he has quietly smuggled nuclear weapons and terror cells into the US and placed them in strategic cities, and that he would detonate one for each day that the US attacked Iraq, the US would be finding another solution to the issue at hand.

No one, do you say this because you think it may have happened, or is it just an assumption? Is it even possible? Especially since the US have uped it's security.

Larc, what you said gave me goosebumps. I think that you have hit the nail on the head with that one statement.

    Thanks for your response.

Me too, Bay64me. It makes me ill when I think about the fact that we consider ourselves a civilized society and yet we still kill innocents.

    Thanks for responding.

    So true, Ballistic.

Thank you for adding the British point of view to this thread.

No One, I am willing to bet that you are correct.

    Thanks for your input.
