AmazingNews on Crisis of Conscience !

Since 1983, the book, Crisis of Conscience, by Raymond Franz has taken on a life of its own ... translated now into many languages.  While at BRCI, I saw Crisis of Conscience in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and others languages, even Japanese ... Japan has long been the love child nation that the Watchtower uses to beat the western JWs over the head ... more than this, though ...

Crisis of Conscience is now in its Fourth Edition, being revised in April 2002 !!! containing a discussion of the United Nations NGO issue and many other fascinating updates ... well worth reading about ... also ...

Here are all the languages I spotted on the Commentary Press web site:

English
French
German
Hungarian
Italian
Spanish
Swedish
Czech
Danish
Dutch
Japanese
Polish
Portuguese
Russian

As I noted in the BRCI thread, the Hispanic community in several areas is starting to distrust the Watchtower Society ... and given that Crisis of Conscience has been available in Spanish for several years, it is only a matter of time as the Hispanic community reads about the UN issue and other updated information to give them pause to see the Watchtower for what it is.

AND, I hope that there may be more translations in the making ... so that Crisis of Conscience will be available to even more ... yet, the Watchtower Society just does not get it ... that information is getting out ... via all kinds of means ... and Crisis of Conscience is staying updated to continue the battle ... other books, like 30 years a Watchtower Slave, have pretty much remained stuck in history ... but Crisis of Conscience is getting better as the years go by ... staying ahead of the Organization ... ... I recommend, if you can, visiting the Commentary Press web site at: http://www.commentarypress.comIf you have not done so already, order a copy of this latest 4th Edition of Crisis of Conscience.

Hi Amazing,

: but Crisis of Conscience is getting better as the years go by ... staying ahead of the Organization

Anyone who is a decade out of the Dark Ages is well ahead of the Organization!

Hey Dutchie:  That's Great.  Maybe Commentary Press will pay me a sales commission.   I picked up the latest edition while at BRCI.  As expected, Ray did a great job in updating with good material.  Let me know what you think of it after you read it.  Also, the Gentile Times Reconsidered is updated, and I got a copy of that one too.  I read the first edition, but loaned it out and lost track of it.  So, I decided the updated version was even better to have on hand.

Excellent point!!!  It only takes that first step to stay home from a meeting to start getting ahead of the organization.

Isn't it amazing that CoC is still as relevant and up to date today as it was 20 years ago?

When I look in my library, I see dozens (more like 100) of the Society's books that have become obsolete. Most of them barely last a decade before they become so filled with errors that they are unusable.

Maybe true light just stays bright.

My wife has just finished the 2002 edition.  She felt that the book answered many of her questions concerning the organisation and helped her solve many of her conflicts within herself.

I guess I should get off my butt and read it.

Thank you Amazing,

I am taking your recent advice, and sending Mr. Franz my own personal Thank You, for helping to save my life.

Years and years ago, I met him personally, when we were both active.  He was so humble and pure.  I always remembered him, and thought that the borg was so wrong when they labled him and told us not to read any of his material.

Thanks Amazing, I've ordered a copy too!

Ray's book (I've forgotten which edition) played a VERY BIG part in opening the eyes of Mrs Ozzie and I to the Borg. It wasn't the cause of our 'getting out', but it served to confirm what we had been thinking, and showed us that we weren't so crazy, after all! We've counted almost 100 of our friends here in Oz who have been similarly effected and have seen "the truth about The Troof".

Cheers, Ozzie

Once I read it my days with the WT were numbered

And this is why this has been such a 'powerful' book; once a Dub has read it, they'll never be the same!

CarmelRe: News on Crisis of Conscience !

I loaned out my only copy of COC while living in Israel. He was a friend from Central America with JW family in LA. Lost track of him and his wife who are now in LA but have heard that his mother and sister have both left the UU's after reading the book. Hope they had an effect on the Hispanics friends there!

Thanks for the info on the fourth addition. Time to re-up!

SimonRe: News on Crisis of Conscience !

I'll have to get the uptodate copies of both of those. I have them already and they are great for confirming you doubts and 'putting your mind at rest' that leaving is the right thing to do.

It's great that Ray is keeping it updated like this - really makes it more powerful and helps more people (esp. the translations). I wonder how many people his books have helped since he wrote them?

I still have not read CofC.  I have made half-hearted attempts to locate the book at B&N and other retailers.  I will order it today.

AmazingRe: News on Crisis of Conscience !

Hi Simon:
I wonder how many people his books have helped since he wrote them?

This is something I tried to find out many years ago.  I asked Ray to let me know how many he had sold so far ... I was not interested in how much money he made, but just wanted an idea of circulation to see how many have been helped.  He would not say.  There are estimated to be about 2,000,000 ex-JWs worldwide ... mostly in Western Europe and North America ... so I hope that Ray has sold hundreds of thousands of books and made some good money.  He lives in a fairly average home on a few acres.  But one would not think he is rich by any means.

Amazing,

Thank you for the info on CoC.  I heard from another poster here that met Ray and Cynthia that they live a very frugal life.  I often think about them and all that they sacrificed in the borg., I appreciate both of them so very much for all they have done to help others.

I think I will donate my current Spanish and English copies of CoC to the local library and order two new ones.

Well, I am going to order it too seeing as my 2nd edition copy has lost its first 26 pages due to being loaned out so much.

I noticed it last night when a dub friend of mine eagerly took it from my hands to read it while at work this weekend.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the new version will be as successful as the older version. ;)
