1)  Raise taxes, and not just capital gains.  Income taxes will be raised as well.  And if you make more than $200k/yr, you are "rich", and defined as such you will get SOAKED; thus, you will have little incentive to keep earning what you do now,--the opportunity to make a nice profit will simply not be there....And all of us working stiffs fortunate enough to make over $50 k/ yr, you better hold on to your wallets as well... we are going to pay for the social security bailout

2)  Nationalize health insurance.  We're going to cover EVERYONE, including illegals/immigrants--guess who's going to pay for it?  Remember, there's no such thing as a free lunch.  Someone has to pay...It ain't gonna be the super rich, and the poor certainly cannot pay for it.  Yup, you're right--those of us in the middle, working class will be footing the bill

3)  Draw down troops and eventually withdraw from all military involvement in the Middle East.  The mullahs in Iran are counting the days....They love Obama!

4)  pass the "card check" unionization bill--no more secret ballot, as has always been the case up till now in votes, union thugs will be able to intimidate and coerce people into voting for union representation because now they will know which workers are not on the 'list', and thus they can apply pressure and coercion tactics.

5)   Want to 'engage' and talk with countries and leaders that openly hate us and show us no respect, like Hugo Chavez, Amejinad(sp?) in Iran, Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe, Bashar Assad in Syria, etc..etc...Bottom line, if he's a dictator, Obama wants to talk, make nice, and negotiate with you.

6)  grow government and the welfare state to a size that cannot be even imagined right now.  Bush as a republican did a bad enough job enlarging the size of our federal government, under Obama it will exponentially get even bigger.

7)pass more regulation and red tape to hamstring business in the name of 'helping the workers'--which in turn will only drive away investment and jobs...

Get ready, America, for the first(I'm sorry, the SECOND) black president of the United States.....

As far as taxes, what I have seen in the past 25 years is that the so-called conservative Republicans are not really conservative. We saw a huge growth of the federal government during the Reagan administration, when he promised just the opposite.

The Republicans and Democrats both will spend our money in big ways. The difference is, the Republicans seem to not pay for the spending, getting our nation into debt. That bird will come home to roost sometime. The Democrats are more on a pay-as-you-go basis. That's a big factor in the elimination of the annual deficit that occurred during the Clinton administration.

As to your point 3 about Obama being the Iranians' best friend: No really, it was the Bush administration that was their best friend. By going in and weakening Iraq, the USA tipped the balance of power Iran's way. That horse has already left the barn, and now America is spinning its wheels in the quagmire that is Iraq. There is no more progress being made toward a permanent political solution now than there was 5 years ago. America is mortgaging its future spending billions a month in Iraq, money which could really be used to strenghthen America in so many ways (development of renewal energy sources is just one of many examples).

As to your point 5 about negotiation, from what I've seen you'd better get your enemies to the negotiating table. All the peace treaties that ever occurred was from enemies coming together and finding ways to compromise. The national security advisor to presidents Ford and Bush 41 was Brent Scowcroft, and he knows a thing or two about international relations. you basically restated all of what I said Obama would do.  Thanks for the emphasis...Lol--with one exception.  You are incorrect in the views that the Iranians and other dictators around the world have in our political process.  By and large, most of them heavily favor the democratic nominee over a republican one.   Wonder why that could be?  Hmmm.....

Do you want America to continue its policy of isolating the bad guys? Even Reagan kept the Soviets at the negotiating table. Brent Scowcroft says America would be better off if we kept an eye on the bad guys - at the negotiating table. What makes you think Scowcroft is wrong? What recent historical success can you cite that resulted from refusing to bring our enemies to the table?

No, this isn't true. He does not plan to cover everyone with healthcare. Go read his plan again. And hey, you're right, there is no free lunch. A country such as the USA who is unconcerned with the health and welfare of each of its citizens will pay dearly for the deplorable lack of planning. Individuals and families with no insurance can go from no debt to owing thousands upon thousands in less than a week from one serious illness or accidental injury. Who do you think pays the bills then?

America is unhealthy. How smart is this? One of the reasons military coups are so easily accomplished in third world countries is because the citizens are so weak and ill with tropical diseases such a malaria that they cannot launch a defense. Wake up. America grows sicker all the time. The sicker she gets, the more of a sitting duck she is.

Oh and who's going to pay for the Iraq war?

And as far as having to pay for medical coverage...I already do!  I pay $440 a month for insurance with high copays and deductibles!

As I tell my Republican co-worker, Obama will solve all the problems that the clusterfuck known as the Bush Administration has foisted on America, turning us into a second rate world power with a government hated and despised the world over.

I never thought I'd hear debates about how much Americans can torture their POWs, for christ sake! We're America, not some South American drug cartel.

Look what we've become in 8 short years.

Bush and his handlers have managed to eat up our economic surplus, plunge us into devastating debt, sink us into at least two never-ending wars that have cost hundreds of thousands of lives, and are leading us to $4 a gallon fuel oil and gasoline prices while the value of the dollar drops like never before. All this while they made themselves wealthier and put the wood to the nations poor and middle class, giving the tax breaks to the wealthiest few. They also failed to protect us from financial institutions that used unscrupulous policies that have created the most serious housing foreclosure crisis since the Great Depression.

I am so much worse off financially than I was eight years ago.

I'm exaggerating a bit, of course. I know Obama won't solve all our problems, and I know that Bush can't be blamed for all our problems either. BUT Obama gives me a sense of hope that I might be proud of my country's government once again.

If you're a former JW, you need to avoid letting poltical pundits put radical and untrue ideas in your head just as the Watchtower writing department did. Think for yourself for a change, because you sound like a puppet (word for word) for pundits featured on Fox News, CNN and the like. Many of the ideas of the current Republican and Democrat candidates are far from perfect, especially in the wake of the mess Bush Jr. is leaving behind, but we need to recognized that the power of the President is limited by the checks and balances placed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Any substantial changes to the tax or health care systems will need to be approved by Congress. Bush and Cheney did have some success in expanding their executive powers, but thanks to a Democratic congress, some of those attempts were thwarted.
