hi everyone! well, im a newbie here, so ill make this short! ive showed my mom the ngo status the watchtower shared with the un for 10 years now... of course, shes now denying it was a bad decision... she says the un is bad as a whole, but joining in as an ngo is okay since its not directly with the un... any tips? thanks!

Welcome ! I was a newbie not too long ago!

All I can suggest is that you read through the thread on what is now "page 2" of this site that has about 280 responses. it's about the NGO and WtB... also check out Randy's site. Lot's of good stuff there about "how to" talk to your family about things like this. It's a lot to digest... take it slow. :)

try reading all the stuff that's here already. there is a lot of information to read through I know....but it's REALLY starting to get redundant reposting and reposting and reposting. I don't think there's very much that can be added.

What you tried to do is called 'exit counseling.' It's a very specific branch of psychology and I don't recommend anybody trying to do this who doesn't know what the h--l they're doing; it can do more damage than good.

Run around on the net and do some research on 'cults' 'countercults' and 'exit counseling'. It won't take long and there's great advice out there for free. Randy's site and Kent's site have great exit-couseling advice for free; links are at bottom of the page.

formulate a plan and be prepared to take six months to a year to carry it out. I am not kidding!!! People's religious belief systems don't usually crash overnight.

Dungbeetle...so much dung, so little time...

    Wise words, Dungbeetle.
it took me just 3 months to get out but I already feel that it is much more heavy to help my family. On the other hand the NGOgate may be a golden oportunity to make things going.
    Happy Day!

It's not clear to me how a jw can take the "it's not so bad stance".

The Watchtower Society claims the UN is the scarlet-colored wild beast of Revelation, and the disgusting thing of Daniel. Really, you can't get much worse than this unless you are Satan himself. There are many quotes taken from WTS literature demonstrating this in the WTS-UN-NGO thread.

Despite this fact, the WTS solicited the UN for formal association, and in doing so, committed to "support the work of the United Nations" and "devote a portion of their information programmes to promoting knowledge of the United Nations' principles and activities".

*The Watchtower Society has committed to support the work of the scarlet-colored wild beast.*

*They have agreed to devote a portion of their publications to promoting the beasts agenda.*

I wonder, would Jehovah share his "channel of communication" with the beast/disgusting thing?

you are on the money- it really saddens me to see folks continue to make the SAME MISTAKE OVER AND OVER AGAIN

folks will come here to the net AFTER AFTER AFTER they have shot themselves in the foot,

we see the DA folks come here asking for advice AFTER they turn thier letter in- or as in this case someone dump all this material on a current jw and it backfires and then they ask for help

well by then the jw has put up the DEFENSE SYSTem THE MOAT IS FILLED WITH SNAKES AND THE GATE IS CLOSED

and here comes some guy HELP HELP in so many cases it;s too late at least for awhile-

i only wish that more lurkers would at least take the time to do thier homework before they venture out into wt world

these folks are trained week in week out on how to respond to anyone who appears to be questions some actions of the wt.inc

and they know how to respond- the person on the other hand shows they don;t know how to respond once the jw starts shutting down

there is too much damn info on the net for anyone to be just walking up to a looyal jw and handing them some damn Xerox copies of FLIP FLOPS AND MISTAKES

    FOLKS READ PLEASE READ

being a former Society Man i could have been shown all this info and my training would have kicked in and i would have stated

"Whatever the Org is doing, it is no doubt for a good reason"

i can even see using some of this info in a talk- case in point

i would use Josushu walking around the city - IT MAY NOT have looked like the wisest thing to do, and perhaps some of the troops may have asked WHAT THE HELL IS jOS doing - got us walking around the Freaking place 7 times--

welll bro would you have been one of those soldiers or would you have trusted that jah org is being directed by god and WE NEED TO WAIT ON JAH

i recall so many times how a good CO or DO could dispell for the masses any concerns about problems in the org and the vast majority would accept- of course there would be those who would realize that the boys are trying to sell them some BS- but for most jw they would NOD IN AGREEMENT

so folks plz do your homework

Look, I've been raised in the Jw 'religion', so i'm not just an ignorant moron. I agree, i was a little hasty, but this was the most shocking thing i've ever seen about the wt in a while, so i admit, I spilled it a little quickly. Same mistake over and over again??? it's the first time I actually voiced my doubts to my mom. come on!

My point is, i may be a newbie, but like you, i was once a model for the congregation, my talks were eloquent, and all that bull, which means i'm not an ignorant a-hole. Back off, please! jeez...

I still dont think I shot myself in the foot... i've only mentioned the ngo thing, and i still didnt show her the things the wt had to sign up to... which may be very interesting indeed. I know it probably wont change anything, and I have no high hopes. I'm not trying to "bring her out". Just the facts, ma'am.

By the way, thanks for the other responses, which were very useful!

    fed up,

Jw's as you must already know are under Mind Control and are taught to think no negative thoughts about the Organization.

That being said you will have your hands full trying to convince your mother about WT wrong doing.
As already mention the more info you get the better you will be able to help your mother. Thank God for the internet.
    I wish you success.

Well, in defense of all those who may have shot themselves in the foot I'd like to offer my experience. I have read both books by Steve Hassan, numerous articles on cult thought, tons of history and research on the organization and additional biblical companions/guides. That, combined with visiting site after site on the organization. I had been actively dropping subtle hints to get my friends wheels turning but did so in such a way that my friend didn't even notice. Finally, I knew I was getting the heave-ho for creating "dissonance", not for anything I doing, mind you, but just for the fact that I exist outside the realm of the organization. So I knew I had only one last chance left. Was it how I wanted it to be? Did it go exactly as I planned? Nope. All I can do is hope that my words had some effect. Sowing those seeds, if you will. I guess I'll see how that turns out in the end.
I guess my point is that every situation is different. If you jump the gun here or there, all is not necessarily lost. Or, you could do everything perfectly and have it backfire. No guarantees. I think you're right to encourage people to be careful and not rush into exit counselling, but let's not decimate someone who cared enough to try to get the ball rolling. They'll be kicking themselves if it really screwed things up, so we don't need to add to it. This isn't a situation most people are prepared for- this getting someone out of a cult! Maybe we should start a thread devoted to tips on exit-counselling. I'd offer to start it myself but after my recent foray into it, I'd rather let someone who can absolutely say they were successful start such a thread. Unfortunately, for the moment, I have no idea of my "success rate". Aw heck, maybe I'll start the thread and people can give some insights...
