I was shaking my head as I read the WT quotes, because what they wrote about the Jewish religious leaders is so similiar to what the JWs have become.

Your comment about the latitude the organization will take and the restrictions on the rank and file is telling. I remember when I was a boy, we were not supposed to join the YMCA because of the name: Young Man's Christian Association. My mother let me join anyway. What the membership included for me, was going on Saturday mornings to play basketball, go swimming, play ping pong and checkers. It was a fun time for a bunch of young boys, and that is all there was to it.
My point is, that an innocent activity for a child is condemned, but a not so innocent activity for the organization is OK by the double standards of the organization.
