I was sat watching TV tonight, her Ladyship was dozing after a hard day, George the Cat was purring and number 3 son had fallen asleep.

Number 2 son was talking on the phone to his girlfriend, number 1 was out selling finance to prospective home-buyers.

Know what? These sons of mine know that I am always on their side, no matter what they do. I can't think of anything that they could do to stop me loving them. There is certainly nothing that they could do that would make me shun them.

I think that JW's are crap parents. Children of JW's fear being abandoned. They know that they are only loved for what they do, they get no love for being what they are. I don't withold approval from my sons as a method of control. I love them for what they are, warts and all.

If one of them told me he was gay I wouldn't admonish him. If one committed an offence I would bollock him severely, but he would know that the situation would become normal again, very quickly, not like the endless reproaches of JW's.

My sons have confidence in my love for them, they know that I work things out from my heart. I have no need to consult magazines or age old Bible writings to deal with problems that may arise.

Sorry JW's, but in the parenting stakes, you just don't cut it.

That is what is known as Unconditional Love. Not something heavily promoted in the bible or any cult.

It is terrible so many never know such love and security. Sad.

Navco....I'd like to respond to what you have writtten but I have no idea what you just said. ANYWAY....I am just a dumb country boy and I really hesitate to stick my neck too far out there but my daughter was disfellowshipped several months ago. I love her more than life and would NEVER shun her under any circumstances. She told me she was blown away by the fact that her parents stood by her and defended her dignity and person. She has been reinstated and I guess that I (or we, her parents) have done too good a job of indoctrinating her into JW ways. She feels that she deserved whatever she got. I am trying to get us all into counseling. I do not know what else to do.

Not all JW parents shun their children.
I certainly know that mine didn't when my sister was DF'ed a few years ago.
She got reinstated, and is now looking likely to be out again, with a similar result as before.

Not all will react the same way.
My bro. shunned her - I could not (and will not).

Just to address Julie's point about unconditional love:
The bible does teach the doctrine of "grace" (regardless of the comments of Wt. on 1Cor.10:12, etc.).
The illustration of the "prodigal son" (or more importantly his father) is a point in case.

Uhm...no, not entirely true. The "bible" does include that concept, by no stretch of any reasonable persons imagination does the bible "TEACH" that concept. Perhaps a handful of scriptures "allude to that concept, but it is certainly opposite the tone of the bible as a whole.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to turn this thread into a scripual discussion of doctrine (wrong forum for that), just to highlight that "unconditional love" is not as alien a concept to the bible as Julie may think.
I'll try to be a little more careful when talking about my take on things, in future - thanks for the wakeup call.
