[This topic seems related to the layoffs] Sadly, they are morphing into a paid clergy class like Christendom - which I have NO intention of supporting. I never signed on for this. Many people became JWs because they had no use for a clergy class. Well, here it is - all dressed up with another name but with the same story. The bottom line is they want to be supported - and by people who they all criticised for working!! I can NEVER forgive or forget how they always discouraged college and secular work and caused terrible trouble for thousands who were foolish enough to follow this ridiculous advice. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that somebody with no college and a pitiful secular job would have next to no money to contribute even if they were inclined to do so. These POs and DOs are guilty for promoting this ridiculous stand and I have no use for them! Also, "wicked men and impostors will advance from bad to worse" in the congregations. Any here who are active better watch out for the slick-talkers in the halls who will try to separate you from your hard-earned money with talks designed to "guilt trip" you into giving or loaning money. Beware of schemes! You better put your fingers in your ears and run! My advice to these overseers and the "special pioneers" is GET A JOB!! LHG

    Further to my above comment:

It is painfully obvious (to me anyway) that all religions end up becoming like this. They may start out with noble beginnings and sincere people and they end up the same way - with the few trying to lord it over the many. Presumptuous claims and nothing to back it up except arrogance. As far as I am concerned, religions are just trying to mimic the monarchies of the world. It is no wonder they are so hated!

Here we are, students of history. All this is history repeating itself.

A little here and a little there. The WTB&TS is starting to feel the pinch. If only those in control would make things right with those that were harmed by the lies and deceit.......perhaps then, the light would start to shine again.

Keep watching. The pressure will increase in many ways as promised years ago................KIM

My father used to make the remark ;"That the society pushed their prepare for the new system by pioneering and not to be materialistic agenda verbaly while all the time they were accumulating real estate like crazy. I am glad pops followed their example! Now his jw realitives refere to him as wealthy.

He also pointed out that the CO & DO were actually a paid position. As all their expenses are covered by the congs. There was always talk of the CO that would be assigned to the wealthier circuts.

I also came to realize that the bethal speaker who had a little bit rank and was adept in his public speaking abilities stood the chance of having one of the j's putting money in his pocket and sometimes on a regular basis.

A lot of COs end up making 60-70,000 dollars a year, which is not bad considering what they do.

It was obvious all the time, but I never realized it, till LongHairGal posted this: The JW's actually have a paid clergy, just like the churches they bash, do! The crusty old coots in their suites with a view in Crooklyn are fully supported and fed, clothed and housed for free! Of course the crusty old coots don't want to lose that, so along comes another special need to advance the worldwide work, and another.

What are the Dubs getting for their money? More refried beans books at assemblies, and the security of knowing these people are spewing forth Jehoopla's pearls of wisdumb as he whispers to them. Put them in a comfy nest, and they will tell you what's news from Jehoopla. Well worth feeding them for life, eh?

Another example of how they are NOT different from the churches.

Fangorn, you are not suggested that they get this money from the WTS, are you? I know that COs get paid under the table by individual JWs and after the meetings with the elders at the circuit assembly. But I can tell you that these COs must be living in areas where JWs have a few bucks. No CO could make 60-70,000 a year on the "gifts" from the JWs around here. Blondie

Yes it's $8 per publisher per year.

They do say that it does not mean that every publisher needs to contribute if they don't have it but they want the congr. to send to full amount

If you have 150 pub. times $8 equals $1200 dollars

They don't care where it comes from they just want the check, if you don't pay you will hear about it as a congr. from the C.O.,

Maybe if you don't pay you might not get the CO visit

donations are definetely down, usually a congreg of 150 pub, they receive approx. 500-600 dollars, which is not much.
