Jan Haugland was one of the most brilliant minds to ever grace JW discussion boards. NOTHING got past him. No amount of bloviating or obfuscation got past him. He was like the Norwegian version of William F. Buckley. His terse and cutting logic caused me to study the discipline, and I'm still grateful to him for his contributions in my life. He's brilliant, witty, funny and being Jan, he can be a jerk. Can't we all? Jan is the same in person as he is on the board. What you see is what you get. At least he's consistent. I say this from speaking with one who has met him.

Guess who got Jan out of the dubs, folks? It was AlanF, his mentor and the ultimate nightmare from hell for the WTS. Only AlanF could take the "monster" dub that Jan was and only the patience of AlanF could have hung in there long enough to do it. I would have shot Jan in the first thirty minutes! :)

I would like to see Jan back and doing his thing. It would take a little humility from him, something he needs to find. I miss Norm, too. I consider the Viking Trio to all be my friends. I'm glad Kent can now post here. They all give us so much.

Once again many thanks for bringing these threads back to life.

I have to say that JanH's critical thinking skills are close to impeccable as evidenced by the posts above. It was threads of those dimensions that imho made this board a more focused and interesting venue in its earlier days,  and it is good to be reminded of the value of such material in helping the many lurkers out there to see the walls of their prison in crystal clarity.
