Crocodile Tears:
In order to capture unsuspecting prey, a crocodile would cry in expectation of attracting within his reach individuals who might pity his apparent sad state. His shedding tears as he devoured them has become a figure of speech for feigned regret and sympathy. The expression was apparently founded by Pliny.
