ScorpionGreat qoutes from JuDgE for A day RuThErFoRd

"The size of the nose, as also the size of the eyes, is not without significance. The small-nosed man cannot have a judicial mind, whatever his other excellencies may be. And a man whose nose upturns can no more be expected to administer justice than a pug dog can be expected to act as a shepherd."
Golden Age 1/19/1921 p.224

"Tonsillectomy is called a minor operation. If so, getting well is a double major. If any overzealous doctor condemns your tonsils go and commit suicide with a case-knife. It's cheaper and less painful."
Golden Age 4/7/1926 p.438

"Air baths are good for preventing colds. What you do is strip naked mornings and evenings and then bob up and down for awhile."
GA 2/10/1926 p.310

"If you spend 15 minutes reading each of Rutherfords books you would get more pleasure than you would reading the Bible for a whole year"

How can he not be a comedic enius? He looks (and drinks) like W.C. Fields!

Ummm... But the page 383 is absent in the "Vindication", Vol. 3...

Ray_Omega correctly observed,

But the page 383 is absent in the "Vindication", Vol. 3

In fact NOT ONE of DaJudge's rainbow library had even 380 pages of text - usually somewhat less.

I don't have a hardcopy of the book to compare, but I suspect that this line may have been included in some (self)promotional advertising at the rear of the book in question. Unfortunately, Research Applications International has not seen fit to include scans of those advertising pages in their pdf versions of the various books. What a shame!

You can enjoy more jaw-dropping statements from the Golden Age here:

I would love to see the promotional material from Vindication, Volume 3.  I would bet someone here in this forum has a hardcopy.  However, it is in accord with other promotional material I have seen from 1932.  Consider these statements:
"Until you have read Judge Rutherford's explanation of these questions, and of hundreds of others which in the past have been just as puzzling, you simply cannot understand the Bible" (Liberty, 1932, p. 64).
"Each treatise can be read in just fifteen minutes, and more genuine satisfaction and profitable pleasure derived therefrom in that length of time than can be gotten from studying the Bible by yourself in a year" (Where Are the Dead?, 1932, p. 61).

BTW, do you know where I can find or download old "GA's" for 1910/20/30 etc. years? It's very hard to get them in Russia...

A character in the Tom Robbins book Jitterbug Perfume recommends the air bath thing for life extension, if not immortality. I wonder if he modeled Dr. Morgenstern and his Institute for Immortality after Rutherford and Beth Sarim.

This visual of Rutherford performing an "air bath" will give me nightmares for months....

The comments in the GA and Consolation are most likely the direct statements of Clayton Woodworth (with Rutherford's approval though).

larc posted this about "Rutherford as a Bible scholar.".

Does anyone have a copy of the Vindication book, volume 1?

We need to get a scan of this up on the web.

"During Rutherford's administration, he was referred to as "the world's foremost Bible scholar. (1) This remarkable, if true, since he had no formal education on the subject."

Are you sure those are not "great quotes" from "Dr. Gene Scott"?

"If you spend 15 minutes reading each of Rutherfords books you would get more pleasure than you would reading the Bible for a whole year"

More and more it appears that the focus of this religion back during the 1930's was the promotion of "Judge" Rutherford's books!

What was the appeal of this guy? I am still trying to figure that out for people did look up to him. And, although they would not admit it, they worshipped him as a royal one, a modern day King David.

Did they really think the God of the universe was speaking through Rutherford? Did Rutherford believe that as well?
