Trygon - I downloaded Google toolbar to my browser, complete with a very nice spellcheck button. Other checkers are available also that will put a button on there.

You could always just do it the old fashioned way and just learn to spell properly, instead of relying on technology to bail you out.

Is English not your first language Trygon?

I could imagine in that case, spelling correctly would be a nightmare.

If English is your first language and your spelling is really as bad as it appears, I hope to emigrate before I retire!

English be my first and only language. Though I am a good speller I am a bit of a perfectionist.

At my office, we have this office software that is like a posting board for jobs that we are running, it's so funny to read what our guys post on it. I read this last week: The ruff at costumers home needs 2 be repared, need 2 send a crew out 2 pick up dabrees, the door needs a 2nd coat of barnish.

It still won't work if you spell the word right.  I bad with to, too, two; there, their, they're; it's its; we'll, will; hear, here; and so on and so forth. . .

It's a phonic-typing-dyslexia thing!   I think?  I, usually, find the mistake after I posted it.

Yes we have a few spelling Nazi's on this board and I laff at them on the inside, because I notice for the most part they are Americans who can't spell correctly themselves. In fact if you point this out they try to blame it on a separate American spelling system that does not officially exist.

Example :

gray in the US

grey in the rest of the English speaking world.

I post on another forum (nothing to do with religion) and, believe me, the spelling mistakes here are bliss in comparison.

I'm dyslexic and a very bad speller. On every board except this one and another I post on I have a spell check built in.

I use fire fox with the internet explorer plug in here to post.I do that so I can have paragraphs and emoticons and I can put clickable links in my posts as well as post pictures. It would be nice to have a spell check on here but I shall not complain.I have a dictionary in my desk.

By the way folks I found an excellent spell checker for Internet explorer that I been using in this forum and others it's called IEspell. it's free and it works great

it installs a button on top of your tasks bar, just type your message and when finished hit the " abc " button and it will spell check everything for you.

As always I scanned It for spy-ware and it came up clean........here's a link so you can try it out yourself.......http://www.iespell.com/

gray in the US

grey in the rest of the English speaking world.

"Grey", "gray"...what's the difference?  You "rest of the English" speaking world also spell flavor/color/honor with a "u"...what's up with that, eh?

I actually have fun searching for misspelled words...especially since my college courses have been going on for a while.  We just had a lesson on the "most common" misspelled words.  Ya know, there is a dang lot of them!

To be honest, I've actually copied and paste posts from spelling critics here on JWD to see if they have misspelled words, and yep, there has been...not as many and not as noticeable.

Not only misspelled words but there are a lot of fragmented sentences from these "critics", so fun to see.

R.CrusoeRe: Spell Cheak?
I'm none too arsed about the spelling! If a person gets their meaning across then I'm fine with them. It's more a problem when a mis-spelling obscures the meaning of the post! Otherwise no big deal as with texts on phones. Sp checks are helpful for those with horrendous spelling problems though because it helps them to express themselves when otherwise they wouldn't due to self esteem or just over concentration on spelling rather than what they want to say. After all the point is to communicate a message. Like religion - God is supposed to be about LOVE and not times and dates - IMHO of course.
