Political threads and the election

While things are quiet on the political front, I think it's a good time to make some guidlines about this.

People will be interested in the election and will want to discuss it, make their political points etc. There are lots of forums for politics on the internet.

    This isn't one of them.

Whether candidate A or candidate B is an asshole or not or is up a point in the polls or down a point in the polls is NOT something we should have topic after topic on IMO. We had this with the war and it took over the site and some people couldn't cope with seeing differing opinions and staying civil.

I've started a "USA Election 2004" topic that people can use for a CIVIL discussion if they want. If any posts are made that contain insults or name calling then they will be deleted.

It's still early... they haven't even announced the next Canadian Federal election yet!

Thank-You Simon!!!!! You will have made a difference by labeling a discussion link separately. And probably have saved some JWD friendships.

I used to think that Dean had it in the bag, but lately I'm starting to think the Kerry will win.

Maybe we should have a system of alerts like the Homeland Defense Department, except we can call it "Political Topic Alert Condition."

Clark is gone (good ridance). Edwards will drop out on the 18th after he losses in Wisconsin (the DNC will force him to). IF Dean makes a good showing there he could concievably stay in...but I don't think he'll make a good showing...the big question now is who will be Kerry's running mate.
