Nothing helps a religion weasel out of the hot seat better than a good arsenal of "back door" words.  The ultimate "back door" expression invented by the Watchtower Printing Corporation is "wait on Jehovah" and the purpose of this post is to examine that expression with a microscope.

This expression is always brought out and touted when things are totally screwed-up in WatchtowerWorld.

"We have a major problem with covering up and enabling pedophiles and expelling the children who are raped by them.  What should we do?  I know!  We'll just "wait on Jehovah."

"Our predictions are so screwed up that there is no way we can fix them without looking like even worse idiots than we are, so the best thing to do is "wait on Jehovah."

"Thousands are dying from our anti-Biblical blood doctrines and millions don't even understand that we almost allow them to actually have blood transfusions these days.  Should we write a concise article and explain in lay terms our newer policies, or should we just announce that taking blood transfusions is a matter of conscience and we will not interfere with a member's exercise of his or her conscience?  Nah!  We'll just "wait on Jehovah."

"I just lost my job, I'm out of food and about to be evicted.  I think I'll just "wait on Jehovah," then.

You get the picture:  this expression is used when stuff in DubLand is screwed up.

The expression is used routinely by dubs and the society without thought.  In fact, most expressions are use routinely by dubs and the society without thought.

By its very nature, the expression "wait on Jehovah" implies two things:

Someday, somehow Jehovah will "do" something to correct a problem.

Jehovah, for some strange reason chooses to allow the only organization he personally selected and is somehow "directing" to have things screwed-up, sometimes for decades before he actually "does" anything about it.  This includes letting uncounted numbers of people die or otherwise have their entire lives screwed-up while God is "waiting" do "do" something to correct the problem.

Since there is virtually NO evidence that Jehovah is actually "doing" anything in WatchtowerWorld or anywhere else for that matter, "waiting" for him to do something is the ultimate religious cop-out and should be identified for what it is.

When some problem DOES get fixed, it is always "Jehovah" who fixed it.  People don't stop to think that it was a bunch of old men in Brooklyn who actually took the initiative to make changes and for severe problems those changes were made because of an "or else" dilemma the society created for itself in the first place. Those changes were usually made due to drastic drop in membership or lawsuits and the threat of lawsuits.  Good examples are the society's former stances on marital sex practices, alternative military service and organ transplants.

For another strange reason, Jehovah somehow "directed" his organization to ban and then un-ban oral sex between spouses.  He also somehow "directed" his organization to ban and then un-ban alternative military service and organ transplants.  Between the banning and the un-banning, people were supposed "wait" on Jehovah while they were needlessly going to prison, having their marriages and families trashed and dying in hospitals.  And when the un-banning was announced people were somehow "blessed" with this new and wonderful "provision" from Jehovah!  What utter rubbish!

Dubs don't like to have their very own precious argument used for everyone else, though.  No!  It is THEIR exclusive argument and if anyone else DARES to use it, it is a sacrilege.  The Catholic Church is now "waiting on Jehovah" to fix its own pedophile problems.  The Afghans "waited on Jehovah" while the Taliban was running around cutting off people's hands and feet for petty theft and executing people for looking cross-eyed at their religious doctrines.  The United States and the World's Intelligence Community is "waiting on Jehovah" to deal with worldwide terrorism.

What would today's society be like if the world had done what dubs do when problems surface?

Had the Allies before WWII "waited on Jehovah," the world would be speaking only German and Japanese today.  We wouldn't have automobiles, airplanes, telephones, computers, medical marvels, disease eradication, an unprecedented standard of living and life expectancy today if all of those pioneers had just sat on their asses and "waited for Jehovah" to make things better for man.

But NO!  Dubs just sit on their lazy asses and spend their entire lives "waiting on Jehovah."  That makes them losers of the worst sort.

God didn't give us the abilities to work out our problems only to have us sit on our asses and then wait for him to do something about them.  It just amazes me that dubs can't figure out that simple little fact.  It amazes me that it doesn't bother dubs in the least that their worldly enemies are working diligently to solve man's problems that benefits those same dubs n countless way as a result, yet they continue to preach their message of hatred towards those same benefactors.

"Waiting on Jehovah" is pure bullshit.  DO YOU HEAR ME, WATCHTOWER LEADERS?  It is a lazy cop-out designed to comfort lazy, do-nothing idiots.  It is nothing more than a stall tactic used by Watchtower leaders while they frantically search for some solution, that when found, they glorify themselves over and say that "Jehovah" provided to them.

Life is made for living and DOING.  That is what life is all about.  How many animals do you see "waiting on Jehovah" for their necessities?  Life was NOT made for "waiting," especially "waiting" for some Old Testament God who's been on vacation for thousands and thousands of years.

There is one and ONLY one time that would be most appropriate to "wait on Jehovah," and that is when you are dead.  At that point you've got nothing better to do and all the time in the world to do it.

In the meantime little dubbies, stop making excuses for your idiotic religious leaders and essentially, blaming God for problems they've caused and not fixed.

    Yaaaaayyyyy Farkel!

A brilliant and enlightening thought for the day. I've thought about this "waiting on Jehovah" doctrine many times and have come up with the same thoughts on it that you have.

Thanks for sharing and for 'les beaux mots justes'!

If I could add my thoughts to yours, Farkel...

The JW's also seem to think that 'waiting on Jehovah' is somehow a mark of faith.  Those who don't want to 'wait on Jehovah' are seen as lacking faith.

Yet this 'wait on Jehovah' type of faith allows for abusive and criminal behavior to continue in their 'society'.  It is an inactive 'faith' that only bears 'bad fruit'.

I can't think of one benficial thing that has occurred in the bOrg as a result of this sort of application and/or expression of 'faith'.

    Hi Farkel,

As a matter of fact the "wait on Jehovah" syndrome is what inspired them to disfellowship Bill Bowen.  You see, in their illogic

reasoning, Bill "ran ahead of Jehovah" and thus he qualified for expulsion from the organization.  So the waiting on Jehovah teaching

also warns those who are thinking about taking  the initiative with regard to changes in the organization to consider it long and hard

because obviously Jehovah does not appreciate those showing initiative, he prefers those who remain meek and humble and who,

although seeing the need for reform, spend their time  waiting on Jehovah to bring about such needed reform.

There are countless examples that could be used to counter the "wait on Jehovah" line of bullshit defense. I'll cite one.

The miners in Pennsylvania who were rescued early this morning after days of tireless effort of scores of people. In a following press conference, someone said, "thank god." Ha! If those men had waited on god, they'd still be down there in that hellhole and *would be* down there for a very long time.

"Waiting of Jehovah" can get a body killed... among other things.

But, by waiting on Jehovah is an action that specifically preserves Unity and the financial integrity of the Organization.

Over the last hundred years, every difficulty either of a personal or bureaucratic nature that has occurred within the Society has, given enough time, been successfully solved, at least as far as the Corporation is concerned, once the problem has left and/or been forgotten.

Farkel , thanks for this post , it is exacatly right on. Last night I dreamed I was still a teenager living at home, I had a sit down talk with my mom and told her I wanted to live my life, have a social life. She told me that my dad thinks I should WAIT until I am older. I say NO!!!! I am not wasting anymore time, I want to be happy now. The dream ended with my mother understanding how I felt, but my dad was not in the dream. I guess I am still afraid to buck that man even in my dreams.

My point is I too am tired, just tired of waiting ,,, waiting on Jehovah for all of my problems to be solved. Waiting on Jehovah to end the worlds suffereing, there has been too many thousands of years for this to end, is it not time?  Yes I agree these words are said to someone when they don't want to talk about a problem anymore, it is their ace in the hole. They pull this one out when all eles fails and they have no answers. I mean what faithful JW will argue against the Almighty taking care of things. It throws the burden of feeling faithless on the JW's back for being impatient and tired.

What makes me sick is the way many some will say that Jehovah took care of a matter, someone was smoking or fornicating and he made it come out into the light. Or someone needed a $100 to get to a convention and he made them get an extra window cleaning account. Funny how God can make these little miracles happen . But he will not make the child molestor be found out before he rapes more children,  He will let thousands starve, let buildings fall on them, more rapes  and murder, too many injustices to count.

But the JW really think that they are special, and have God's full attention,. He answers only their prayers and saves only their babies. This has been one of the things that made me feel like leaving the JW was the only thing for me. I just couldnt beleive this to be true anymore, and I didnt feel anymore worthy than anyone eles in the world, just because I was a JW.

I for one would like for one day , God to make it all right, to fix what is going on. But I just don't know.  I have lost alot of my faith thanks to being a JW.  Until the day, that He does do something I will do my best to do what I think needs to be done , in my power, in my lifetime.  If there is a God, I am sure he wouldnt want us sitting on our asses waiting on him to do every little thing when we do have the power to change things, especially the GB,they could at least try . They are too busy making brooms up there,  so they can sweep the problems under the rug.

I think we know one kittie that's waiting for jehovah...*L*  Farks, great post as usual.  Waiting on Jehovah is a lot easier than having and believing free will exists that's for sure.

Lyin...you know Jehovah's presence is all around you....now if you could just get him to clean up after himself! ...miracles indeed *L*

    Great post Fakel.

    Lets see if I were to have waited on Jehovah every time I was told to do so I would have been;

Still living in a house with my molester and his friends until he died or married off to some MS.

Lost my home, car and all belongings. I would have been without income to support my children after my first husband left. Most likely on well-fare living off the state thirteen years ago.

Without higher education to provide for my children.

Because I did not wait on Jehovah, the sisters and brothers in the hall shunned me for working to provide for my family. This because I could not make every meeting due to work and education. I was "marked" as well because I did these things. I could not believe it when I was told a talk was given one Sunday and I was marked for trying to better myself and wrangle myself away from my home.

Not relying on Jehovah as directed, has let me with my sanity (well some of it ). An education to assure that my children have what they need. Far and away from my molesters. Because I made the decision to rely on my own resources I have become an independent woman. Albeit I lost my JW friends because I chose to think and do for myself. I made it here and out of the org.

How sad that one chooses to wait until they can no longer think for themselves and endure a lifetime of pain thinking Jehovah will suddenly drop a ton of money in their laps and take care of their financial woes. Of course Jehovah, in due time will protect the children and stop the molesters, of course he will I'm sure strike them down with lightning while in the act. NOT!!

Cassi, of the get up off your Ass and be proactive class.

    farkel:

    regaurding this statement you said:

Good examples are the society's former stances on marital sex practices, alternative military service and organ transplants.

look at what this JW said on an aol discussion board:

"TS----> First of all, where is the evidence that people have died because of a changed policy within the organization of jehovah's Witnesses?  The whole statement is based on bitter assumption."

and this was Gwen's response to this JW:

This person OBVIOUSLY never had a loved one DIE rather than be a Canibal "IN JEHOVAH'S EYS" before the Governing Body/ ANOINTED BY HOLY SPIRIT changed their policy on how to view ORGAN TRANSPLANTS or VACCINATIONS.  Therefore, they VERY obviously don't care about hose who DIED by not sticking to the POLICY.   Nothing of the sort happened in this persons family.  That explains why they will stand up and remain loyal to a printing
    factory.

    og,

: but the only thing I really noticed in Farkel's post was his statement that oral sex had been "unbanned".

The change in the policy is a "don't ask don't tell" stance now.  Before, the elders could badger poor dubs with probing questions that were none of their freaking business, and loyal dubs were required to "confess" to having sexual practices that didn't have the Watchtower Stamp of Approval(tm)."

As a result of this sick policy, many spouses who wanted out of their marriages ran to the elders and told them that their (mostly) husbands were "making" them perform oral sex.  The (mostly) husbands got DFd and the wives filed for divorce in the hopes the husband would then get some nookie elsewhere and they could be "scripturally" free to re-marry.  It is impossible to know how many marriages were trashed over this policy, but I'm sure that fact caused the GB to re-think their position and change it.

Dubs can have all the oral/anal sex they want as long as neither spouse mentions it to anyone else, and because of the new WT policy can still have a "clean" conscience about doing it.

    It's all bullshit.
