Like most on this board, I know the story, have seen the UN press release, ect. But can someone comment on two questions for me?

Who caught them with their hands in the cookie jar? How did that info get out, and was it revealed in any widespead journalistic outlets that can be referenced?

Any insight into why they did such a thing as that? Seems unbelievable that they did so - although i know they did - and it was one of the main components to my leaving and never going back [we were on the way out- but this clinched it for sure - I just cannot concieve of any good reason for doing so. I know the excuse was circulated that it was to use the library - and we all know that was a lie - but why did they really do it? Was there money to be tapped? Did they actually tap some of it?

    Any insights or direction here?

Jeff - the only answer that makes sense to me is that it was to appear more credible to those countries, such as France, who aren't fooled by the suits and short hair.

Similar to the Bulgarian Blood issue where they stated that taking blood was up the individual and that no negative consequences would befall JW's who choose blood. Of course this is BULL and only stated to win favor on their appeal to get legal status.

...or they just really wanted that library card (wink wink)

    Hello AK-Jeff

It was exposed here on JWD, first by Zev who still post here, then Hawkaw and several others (I hope they recieve credit) pushed through more research and documentation until the WT asked to be 'disassociated' from the UN.

In the process I think it was Richard Rawe who contacted the The Gaurdian News paper and it became public.

As to who got them involved in the first place that seems to be Ciro Alacino of the WT writing staff. Why? I don't know if that has come out. I have an opinion as other do but your post is seeking facts so it should stay that way.

It was to gain some sort of legitacy (spelling?) in some countries that they where having a hard time getting established in, by means of being part of the UN. I have read alot of the links that came out about this issue, but I didn't copy them anywhere. I am sure that somebody that has alot of this info will direct you in the right direction.

For example, in the East Timor situation they used their NGO status to fly Australian Witnesses from Dili to Darwin and back for circuit assemblies, on the UN aircraft. For free of course.

Pope - very interesting. Do you have any other references on this?

    Pope,

Those are good points suggesting a motive. I know how hard it is to find things but if you can locate the source of those examples you mentioned I would like to add them to my WT/NGO note book. Please, if you have time, see what you can come up with.
