	I personally think that this article writen by CT Russell himself,,shows him to be a wise manipulator....oppressive husband....ruthless distorter of information cleverly used to promote himself before all his followers. I do not view Maria as totally innocent either,, but C T Russll was by far the worse of the 2. As many already know C T never was intimate (sexual) with his wife. Read the article here quoted and form you own opinion. I think even thought it was writtne by CTR himself,,his oppressive,,egotistical,,mock humility will still show thru. I must admit, there is enough blame to go aroundon both sides. The Russell's entered into a monogamous marriage. C.T. Russell believee in living a chaste life, having offered his life to the Lord. Maria accepted that contract when they met and still married him. Now I find it interesting that people look at what he did to her or seemingly did to her and automatically take her side. A little history. Joseph Russell, Charles' father, remarried, he married Maria's sister, making Charles' sister-in-law his step-mother.  A women who was very much involved in the women's lib movement of that time. And caused problemsin their marriage, trying to get Maria to be an equal partner in the affairs of the Watch Tower Society. It didn't work.... there were other problems, some within the movement believed Russell had too much authority over the Society. They fail to understand that the Society in Russell'sown words was a business, a publishing house, it isn't what itclaims to be now, Jehovah's visible organization. These nobodies, managed to take advantage of Maria's situation and use her against Russell. In 1897 she filed for divorce, the divorce was granted ten years later. Russell lived at the Bible House in Pittsburgh, and let Maria live in their duplex house for free, she then rented the rooms to borders and he never asked for a pennyof it.  What ddid she do with the money?  She self-published anti-Russell literature. Now I don't know about you, but my wife leaves me, Ilet het stay in my hme rent free, she collects an income and uses that income to slander me and I don't retaliate? People have killed their spouses for lesser "crimes." Maria died in Florida,I know many who knew her personally who are alive today. And she seemed sickened by the whole situation, very remorseful for how things  turned out. Br. Russell. RR
