As a service by Jehovah's "loving" organisation, the WTS has issued a list of situations where sisters are to wear a "head covering".

    1.  Family Bible study/meal where husband is non-JW and present.

    2.  Conducting a Bible study with baptized son.

    3.  Offering a prayer where her baptized son is present.

    4.  Leading a midweek field service group.

    5.  Conducting a study with a baptized male present.

    6.  Conducting a study with unbaptized brother present.

"Lovingly" the article also lists the situations where sisters need NOT wear a head covering:

    1.  Conducting a family study where husband is NOT present.

    2.  Giving oral or sign-language translation of Bible discourses.

    3.  Publicly reading the pragraphs from a Bible study aid at a congregation meeting.

    4.  Taking part in demonstrations, relating experiences, or handling student talks.

    5.  Preaching and teaching OUTSIDE the congregation i.e. witnessing.

(Source: The Watchtower* July 15, 2002 pages 26,27)

It's so "heartwarming" to see the way that these rules and regulations are so "lovingly" explained!

Aren't you glad to be away from all that!

    Cheers, Ozzie

hey ozzie - and Good Weekend to you!

I was a Catholic until I started studying at 18.  Back then, late 60's, it seemed all young people were rebelling against rules.  Somehow, I was dumb enough to be led to believe that the Catholics were full of rules (and they were) and that Jehovah's Witnesses didn't live by rules (like the Jews) - but by the bible.  Duh..............I fell for it.

Of course, the rules are brought in quietly, a little at a time.  It's put forth in couched terms so that they don't seem like hard rules.  But they are - and there are hundreds of rules and inuendos.  Anyone who's been a jw for a significant time just couldn't imagine a sister walking up to the platform and saying she's going to give prayer this morning for the congregation.  It just shocks the mind!  A woman acting like that!

    It's good to be free.

    Hi Ozzie,

    OK, now I'm confused.

Did Barbara Anderson wear a head covering when writing for the Awake?  Hmmm.  How about when she researched Proclaimers?  Hmmm.

Do those MS wives and Elders wives who help write their husbands talks wear a head covering while writing? Hmmm.

Oh, now I get it.  Women can teach baptized men with the pen but not the tongue.  Deep thinkers these JW leaders!

    G'day IW,

    Deep thinkers these JW leaders!

This partly explains why their interpretation of the apostle Paul's writings are so askew. Without 'deep thought' they fail to take into consideration the context. (What else is new!).

    Good to 'talk' to ya.

    Cheers, Ozzie

It amazes me to see how many rules and regulations the society has and all the Scriptural reasons for having to follow them!

    Ozzie..... well done...

And these are the dunderheads and teh specious reasonng we have to thank for the life-altering blood prohibition, alternative military service and shunning policies. And yet the rank and file doesn't even blink while swallowing this swill in one gulp.

I always had trouble remembering the "when to's" and the "when not to's" on this!

A bunch of us were sharing a motel room the night before an assembly, my friend's hubby ( a baptized JW) went to take a shower, and I had said my grandson's bedtime prayer (no headcovering cuz the Brother technically wasn't in the same room.)

Later on, the Brother asked if I wanted him to say the prayer, and when I told him I had already said it....he said I was wrong (no headcovering) cuz he was "still here" (yup-yup-yup-yup-sigh).

Where the hell was my brain for all those years? If there are so many rules and restricions (can you say Pharisees?) just to be able to pray for cryin' out loud........shouldn't some kind of red flag start mentally waving to alert our gray matter that this is nonsense?

    hugs,

    Annie

Almost makes you want to scream. It is like doing the hokie pokie... put your right arm in.. oh did I say right arm I meant left.. oh I said left I meant your left leg.. or noo I mean your body. Give me a break.

Next they will be breaking out the full body veils the Afghan Women had to wear during Talaban rule stating Jehovah's new ruling that women must be covered from the tops of their head to below their ankles.  The only thing that can be showing is their eyes.. and they better be down cast or it may be taken in a sexual manner.

    Sheesh!

I could not help thinking that when Jesus was here he kept  the Jewish law, but did so with reasonableness and common sense, ie: plucking ears of corn on a Sabbath, curing the sick on a Sabath, and he did not tell off the woman who pressed through a crowd to touch him, although she was "unclean" through a "Flow of blood"

My point is, if they purport to follow his example then they would not be creating rules for every occasion, so that the unwary can be cought out and "Lovingly counselled"

    Bah Humbug  PHARISEES!

    Ozzie,

I was noticing how your signature ties in with this.

Freedom means not having to wear a tie.

Freedom also means, not having to wear a head covering!

    2.  Giving oral

What? You mean you can give oral as long as you wear a head covering?

Hmm...I may have taken that out of context...

Yes I must agree this is very much like reading some Pharissee rule book. What about when the moon is full and the sister has just eaten unleaven bread, then is she good, cuz she hasn't taken fremented cakes into her belly? Grrr! It's just so stupid--do they really believe Jehovah gives a rats ass about headcoverings?

My wifes mom once came over to lecture me about some perceived disrespect I had shown to her at a "Family Meal" (Think Thanksgiving, Folks   LOL) She came over wearing curlers and a scarf (even though she was staying home that day and doesn't normally use curlers, anyway) toting her green Bible on a silver platter (which she was returning) and began quoting some obscure scripture from Leviticus about respecting "grey haired ones". At first my wife and I couldn't figure out the reason for her curlers and scarf, but later had a good laugh. The platter was the icing on the cake. You have to picture this and feel quite sorry for her.
